maybe i misunderstood him until his last post saying he had 10K for everything, the op was suggesting he had 10K to spend on an engine swap, i said your better off with gears and a supercharger, but then after another post of his, for some reason, i thought he wanted more than that.
so i went the other way with it, you have no idea some of the crap i've seen
people do to their cars so maybe he wanted a 427ci in there lol, you know?!

that last comment is kind of funny anything i ever say is just an matter of opinion and should be treated as such,i have no i idea who he is or what he's trying to really going for you know?:happens:

Supercharge

I say just supercharge the 3.4 and then add a K & N intake and some exhaust system TRD or magnaflow. That will quite a bit of power and sound great

There was a guy on here who found a low-mileage 4.0 to swap into his 4th gen after his wife killed the original engine by running it without oil pressure. I think he paid a few thousand dollars for it. The engines are out there, it's just a matter of finding them. I think the swap could easily be done for under $10K. The only thing is that he'd probably need a donor 4Runner to swap over everything else necessary too.
 
Has anyone attempted the 1uz or 2uz swaps yet? Im sure they have just havent searched :(.


You could find either engine for under 2k probably for both and swap the 1uz rods and so on over to the 2uz and have a stout motor. Hell you could supercharge/turbo those fairly easy.

I guess if you are an experienced welder/mechanic, doing all ofthe labor yourself, maybe you will be below $10k. But hope you know there is not one common thing from a 3.4l and a 4.0l. Engine, ecu, harness, transmission, transfer case, etc will all need to be custom installed. It's not matter of finding a donor vehicle. That's the easy part.

BTW, people blow $10k budgets for k-series swaps on Honda Civics! A FWD car.

I have read about the lexus 4.0 v-8 swap, however I have a new super charger for sale(and all of the install parts) if you wish to go that way.
 
Although It would be difficult to wheel with a turbocharged engine, I would love to see someone do a 2JZ engine swap from a supra.
 
The HP from a S/C 3.4 is supposed to be in the 240-275 range depending on who you listen to and believe. With a S/C you also gain torque from idle on up. Turbo can generate more HP but you do not see the torque gains and the HP is usually at higher RPMs.

You tube has some videos of Lexus V8 powered runners however with a 10k for total build I would do the Supercharger and then whatever build you want. Remember it is your car and not anyone elses so get opinions and then go from there.

So you wouldn't wheel the 200 series LandCruiser Diesel? It has a TWIN TURBO V8. I think turbos are an excellent addition to any engine for wheeling.

Yotasrule, you might want to look into the Toyota 2GR. It's a 3.5lt quad-cam VVT-i V6. It's good for 265+ HP without super or turbo charging, and being a V6, is probably going to fit in the bay. Probably cost more than a S/C though.

7mgte? If so that supra engine swap wouldn't be bad. With the stock CT26 a healthy 7mgte engine will produce more trq then hp usually with the CT26. Its a long stroke I6.
Shoot with intake and exh. you're looking at 265-280hp and the CT26 isn't laggy at all paired up with the R154.

Who's talking about turbo diesels? Much less a V8? Plus, everything on that vehicle is made to work with the power delivery. This is not the case with the 4Runners. With the 3.4L, I'd rather have the consistent power deliery of a stock engine or a supercharged one. Turbo will be too inconsistent.

I would honestly choose the SC'd 3.4l over a swap because most of the hard part is already done... Consistant trq in the low end with heavy wheeling is needed.

I disagree on the turbo, gears, with a properly setup turbo system will no be inconsistent. Remember a turbo needs load. Not running room if you're thinking about lag. ie: interstate driving and so on.

With some heavy tire,wheel, and gearing combinations and agian the PROPERLY sized turbo will be very consistant. Agian the turbo will be using load to spool and with heavy tires, wheeling thru holes, rocks, and anything requiring some moving the turbo will be ready to go.

It's just one of those things that it's a personal preferance of what the driver may want. Either or you gotta get use to the setups and how they'll perform.

But agian I would agree and stick with a supercharged 3.4l for ease of getting it done sir.
 
After my 35's and gears my next big mod will be a turbo on the engine we already have. These engines will be plentiful if something breaks and you can always add more boost with supporting mods. A 500+whp setup shouldnt really be to hard. I think a guy on these forums was making 350 at the wheel on stock internals.

I understand what you're trying to say. I guess with a good set up, it might work great, but my experiences with turbo's lead me to believe otherwise. I guess inconsistent was a poor word choice. It's just that it's either on/off type of feeling. With an S/C, it's more controllable. But for wheeling, I'd definitely prefer an N/A set up with some good low end torque.

I know what you mean and agree for off-road a torquey v8 or maybe roots type s/c on the v6 would be more predictable/useable. But the size of the turbo can make all the difference...ex: srt-4's on stock turbo spool at like 2500 rpm, almost feel like a really powerful v6.

The TRD s/c is gonna max out at 240'ish whp and will loose effeciency after that(same applies to my s/c srt-6 @ 350 whp:()...turbo will keep going and going...well to a point...upgrade valvetrain, bottom end, ecu, fuel, etc.:AK47:

Has anyone seen a newer v8 swapped into a 3rd gen...like a tundra motor or something with some balls? Exclude domestic engines i cant bring myself to do that to her, id just buy a jeep or chevy/ford if i were gonna jump on the pushrod band-wagon.
