Want to order steering wheel controls from Toyota

Hi...

Looking to buy the actual controls for audio control on steering wheel (the volume buttons, etc.).

A few questions:
- Who has a parts breakdown diagram so I can order it from Toyo
- Who has the electrical breakdown so I can wire it into my stereo
- Is there any specific dealerships that the forums like to use for ordering parts (ones that are cheaper than others?)

I've looked into this a few times, and basically from what I beleive, you will need a whole new steering wheel, and an airbag. Although, there may be a cover that you can swap for your current air bag. And the wiring harness should be a standard toyota harness that plugs into the back of your radio. It might only be on the JBL models though...I don't remember. I have the scion radio, and I know it has the connector socket.

i don't really care so much about whether it fits into the stock unit...i have a pioneer navi in which I'm going to get the PAC controls.

i'm just talking about the physical buttons...can someone who has these take a picture of there steering wheel for me so i can see what it entails?

also, does someone have a link to the schematics of the steering wheel?

My interpretation of those diagrams is the same as what simple said above - they're part of the steering wheel, so it's a total replacement of the wheel.

Looking at this diagram it looks like you could get the individual parts :

But then again, maybe I am not reading the diagram correctly.

Maybe you can get just the switch. Definitely talk to a dealer for more info, and take that picture with!

part 84204 right? 84244 too? i dont know what the steering wheel controls look like...are they on the left and right side of the steering wheel?

can someone take a picture of their steering wheel with the controls? thanks!

ok...so i looked thru cardomain to try to find some pics of steering wheels, and I did. Now, can someone answer, does the black housing on the right side of the steering wheel have any type of electronic function? or is it just a cover?

My 06 SE is like in the included photo, and the right side has no function, I believe the ones with NAV /bluetooth, have a different control, that allows control of the phone. But I could be wrong.


While item numbers 84244B and 84247A are the correct parts, the correct part numbers to order is the number listed below it.

so 84247A the part should be 84247-35010-BO
84244B should be 84247-35030-BO

The blank control looks like 84258A or Part# 84258-58010-BO

If your steering wheel looks like the one below, the parts above probably will not work unless you get a new horn /airbag cover.

84258A (blank cover with no nav control) could be interchanged with 84244B (nav/bluetooth control).

Now...is the horn/airbag cover just that? A cover? Or does it include the actual airbag? Does anybody know the part number?

I used to own a Nissan Maxima and I had to change the clock spring...the airbag was actually part of the cover. If this is how the 4R is too, this would be way too expensive. Anybody know if this is how it is on the 4R?

yah...thats what i saw too. anybody reading this, do not buy a pioneer navi unit unless you don't mind waiting for it to change songs....yes i did the upgrade. looks like i'm gonna have to go with this garbage

Thanks everyone for your help...looks like this thread is finished. I am gonna go to the junkyard and see what they've got (if anything). I'll see if they want to trade my cover for theres + maybe like $100 or so.
