Warning light help

2014 TE

I warning light has suddenly started blinking on my dash and I'm unable to identify it.

Location is on the center console (passenger side) directly below the temperature control knob. There is a small dark window approximately 1" x 2" that is identified as the indicator lights for airbags being active. The flashing light is in this same window and flashes red in what appears to be a padlock.

What is it? I've never noticed it before.

Let me know what you find. I just finished a page by page search through the owner's manual..... Which marks the third time I've been through it cover to cover. And I've only owned the vehicle for 6 weeks.

Sometimes the sanctimony on here is too much.

It's in there. Theft determent system. Some of the veterans answer like this (me included) because some, although not all, noobs couldn't find their ass with both hands and need help. We almost always help but not before being told to try to figure it out themselves. Sometimes its tough to tell the difference.

It's not a phenomenon that is unique to this forum. On a scale of 1 to 4Chan I'd say this forum runs about a 2 (not all that bad in the grand scheme of things). Reinforcing forum etiquette is a necessary evil, some folks just seem to revel in it.

I've gotten used to the people on the woodworking forum I hang out in being super friendly, so I've started to use them as my gold standard of what a forum can be.

No worries, I hoped that link helped out. It's not always easy to be able to find the answers on your own. That's one of the reasons why I like spending time on forums. We all have questions about a similar interest.

Sometimes it's a long day and the last thing we want to do is spend more time than needed to find something. Other times we look but can't seem to find it because we are using the wrong terminology. It's happened to me many times. "Padlock" doesn't show up in the owner's manual index or the online search (where I found the online PDF manual). However, a similar term "alarm" is found when you look either in the index or search online. To me, both are synonyms, however in this case one would lead to a dead end whereas the other would have the answer.

We all have our own ways of thinking, many times it's different, but we are all trying to reach the same end goal. You say "to-may-to", I say "to-mah-to".


By the way, for anyone interested, Toyota has the manuals online. No need to run out to the vehicle and sift through the pages in the passenger seat anymore.
Select your model and year in the top left hand corner.

He was just having fun but new guys won't know that because they are, well, new. Also, and don't tell anyone, he is 94 years young today!!!!! Happy Birthday [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION]!!!!! Tell those nice folks at the nursing home to let you stay on their old 286 desktop (running Windows 3.1 quite nicely I might add) a few minutes later than 4 PM today OK?

More than accepted ... I made no effort to look at your past posts, so I misjudged your attempts at the manual, for which I apologize as well.

It's just that soooooo many guys come on here, without making the slightest attempt to help themselves first .... well, I've just become jaded.
