The advantage of using the dealer is that they use torque sticks that will not over tighten your wheels, they are dumbass proof. If you go to an independant shop they have to look up the right torque rating and then use a torque wrench or the correct torque stick. So you have to hope that they do their job right. based on how people screw everything up, I like to use the dealer.

I've never seen anyone use a torque-stick...they just whack away w/ the impact wrench like there's no tomorrow. I have seen special torque impact sockets, but they are only available in very limited torque values, so they might be as much as 10 ft-lbs off the recommended torque.

I was always taught to avoid torque sticks, as they were shown to have too much variance. When I took auto tech, we used torque impact sockets with a very low torque rating and then torqued all of the wheels with a good old fashioned torque wrench in a star pattern.

That could be wrong, however, as there is an infinite amount of bad advice out there...
