The black badges look great with the black rims, basket, & deflector. What paint did you use? Do you think it is nuts to consider black badges on my black runner and since I'm adding chrome accents?

Thanks!! I just used some leftover Rustoleum "Industrial" spray paint on top of some plastic paint adhesion promoter. It's a really easy process, and I think black on a black rig would look great, even if you plan on adding chrome accents elsewhere. At the same time, it'd still look great to keep the badges chrome if you're adding chrome accents because then it ties everything together.

Hey T.. looks cool.. i notice you don't have the stock mud flaps or whatever you wanna call them.. and did you take off the step rail? or did it not come with one? i am debating about taking off the mud flaps, but really worried about zingin rocks from my tires chipping my paint... and how did you mount your yakima rack? just straight to the factory rack bars?

In the rear I have the stock mud flaps, but in the front I have longer/wider ones to help protect the body from rocks and other debris since I removed the running boards a long long time ago. I will be getting sliders soon, but I'm not sure which company I'll buy them from. An earlier plan has apparently fallen through, so I'm always keeping my eyes open.

The yak rack mounts directly to the factory rails, yup. Easy, easy!!

The rig is looking good - I love how you took all the stuff off the back and added your own - gives it a clean custom look.

You may want to look into All Pro off road sliders. I had a set of universal mount ones on my old rig. They have a big bump out on the back to guide around stuff - would look great with your truck. allprooffroad.com Check them out.

Yeah, it probably would, but I am debadged and loving it. The only reason I am considering the black is because it doesn't stand out as much as the chrome. Hopefully a cleaner look. I may try it just for fun, since it is easy and cheap.

oh gosh, that reminds me - if you do that, be sure to AVOID 3m emblem adhesive (the glue-type) ... it etches the paint. I found that out when I read the tube and it recommended testing a small area -- I did so and can still clearly see the outline of where I tested it on the paint. The best thing to use to reattach them is 3M nameplate tape ... if you get into the process and get to this point, let me know and I'll look up the exact name for you.

Yeah, I have left over of the 3M automotive tape from adding my chrome door handle covers. The sales guy at pep boys told me there are about 4 different levels. There is one weaker than mine and the two higher strength are so strong they would probably pull paint with them. So, be careful on what grade of tape you buy. I'll try to remember to look up exactly what the package says for others reference.

Cool ... the stuff I used (which is perfect and hasn't marred the paint at all) is 3M "Nameplate Repair Tape" ... gray, part number 06385.

It says it is "OEM-Approved Tape" and is "intended for use on lightweight emblems, ornaments and nameplates only."

(that's from the little insert that came with the tape ... which I just looked at)
