Was your salesperson knowledgeable?

I have to give a big up to Jeff from Longo Toyota in SoCal. This guy was VERY knowledgeable on the 4Runner. He took the time to go over the ENTIRE car with me especially all the 4x4 controls. Knowing I was new to 4x4 vehicles, he didn't rush anything, wanted to make sure I was comfortable and confident with the information he provided. We went through every 4x4 control, when to use it, when NOT to use it, how to know when certain options are engaged.

The best part? He has a 4runner goes off-roading. Even extended an invite to go along on one of his monthly group outings to show me the ropes.

Also, dealt entirely through email with him during my purchase and he provided the best quote out of the SEVERAL dealerships I contacted. No bait and switch when it came down to purchase either, the price he quoted was the price I got.

I have to admit, it was the best car buying experience I ever had. Got in and out within 2 hours, and most of that time was going over all the car controls!

If you're on this forum Jeff....THANKS AGAIN!

So they can do it right, good to hear

It's part of Toyota's culture it seems. When trying to find out if Quicksand was a color for 2017 & when the 2017s were to be released no one knew anything. I went to a car show and the corporate salesmen there knew nothing. I even pushed my questions to the general managers at two different dealerships and they both told me the same thing. Toyota tells them nothing.

Mine was pretty clueless about the car... he knew it was 4wd but couldn't even tell me how to put it in 4wd mode (as his hand was pretty much touching the transfer case shifter)

He also kept insisting that I keep the RPMs low to "break in the car to a new driver". I was buying the car used with 100k on the odometer... I'm pretty sure it was broken in. But for some reason he insisted that the car needed time to "adjust to my driving style" and even suggested I unplug the battery overnight to "clear the old owner's information". :wtf:

Mine kept trying to bring up the 'text' on the 2007 SE JBL system. Other than that, he was sharp enough.

Told me that the whooshing air pump on shutdown was the KDSS hydraulics.

Told me that KDSS only worked off road.

Insisted that the Trail has a center differential.

Knew More than the Dealer

I had a bunch of technical questions at the dealer we went to. Nobody could answer them. Luckily had done a ton of research prior to going in and knew exactly what we wanted.

Our sales lady knew everything on the 4runner including about the 4x4. Even mentioned how many miles to switch in to 4wd and under no circumstances no 4wd on pavement, unless we wanted costly repairs. We had a great experience.
