Water coming through sunroof

I have a 2013 Trail purchased in March with 6k on the odometer. Just ran it through a touch less car wash(one of the high pressure ones) and had some water come through the sunroof. I got hit in the arm and face a few times with droplets and noticed water on the + and - signs on my transmission.

My girlfriend wiped it up before I could take a picture but it looks like water has gotten in before. Is this anything I should be overly concerned with and does anyone else have water spots where the sunroof rests when opened all the way?

My 2010 Limited has 49k miles, and I've taken it through high pressure washes, heavy rain storms, etc. I've never seen any water come through the sunroof. I'd head back to the dealer and get that fixed.

I have the same problem. Make sure to get it wet for the dealer to show them. Don't let them just run a hose over it because it wont show up until after you leave. And make sure to get it fixed soon, otherwise is runs down the A-pillar and gets the seatbelt wet, which then begins to smell HORRIBLE!

Leaking sunroof is not OK and must be covered under warranty. This was exactly the scenario the finance lady told me happened to her vehicle when she tried to sell me extended warranty. Get it fixed and get it fixed soon if you can.

Not a single drop inside.

Get it looked at.

There was a thread about this earlier. You may want to search for that one and see what knowledge it adds for you. There was also some talk in there about cleaning and lubricating the tracks.

Did you check to see if the tracks and seals are clean and not dried out?

Your owners manual has instructions for how to initialize the sunroof (mine is on page 100- but yours may be a different page). This will reset the sunroof to ensure it's opening and closing within the factory specified range. Basically you hold the buttons down for a few seconds I think...

Do that and check to make sure the drain holes aren't clogged. If that doesn't fix it your warranty will. Good luck.

I think it doesn't open all the way due to air turbulence...I believe I read somewhere that this is the optimal position to reduce wind noise, or something to that effect. So if you still want to go past it you need to press on the button manually to crank it open all the way.

Thanks to everyone else for the advice, I've got a call in to the service department director and I'll try to reset the sunroof per antman's post.

I know this is an old thread but did your warranty pay for this? I have 27,000 miles on my 2015 and the service department said that I had voided my warranty by running it thru a carwash.....their carwash that I have free access to for the life of the 4Runner. Just wondered if yours paid or if you had to take it to Toyota Corp. Either way, I'm afraid I am in for a fight. Thank you in advance!!

I have....this has been ongoing for over 2 months and with video....of me in a car wash and water pouring in. Was in there last Thursday...he assured me he would contact me Monday or Tuesday of this week to get an appt to get it fixed. It is Thursday and I call. I was told since I had went thru the car wash I had voided my warranty. I just want it fixed and if it takes going to Toyota Corp I will. Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate it.

Good luck. One other thing you can try first is another dealer.

I would avoid that dealer and make sure others know about it too.
