This has been posted before and it is really the limit of a water crossing. A small problem could have turned that situation deadly, very quickly.
I do have to admit, it was handled well.

Clark caught a lot of flack for that one from the SAR folks. It was a very risky crossing. There was definitely some technique there... he has done several deep crossings... but he came very close to losing it on the way over as well as on the way back (shown in the video above).

That certainly looked squirrely. Assuming that a person had to cross that, did he do it right? It seems like maybe linking together several straps and tying off to a tree might have been a good precaution? Or would that be a waste of time?

In the first video they show the tow/recovery strap hooked up but only one and was held by another guy walking out into the water(very bad call) should have been enough to get across and to another vehicle. In my linked video that is what we did to the first truck going across and it has a concrete bottom at the specific crossing point to avoid errosion and provide traction.
Remember it takes 6"s of water going 6mph to take a 250lb man off his feet and drown him. I wish I had my study materials handy to give more examples of how powerful water is.

General rule of thumb is... always walk it. If you can't or don't want to... you truck probably won't make it either.
I would have taken a different line then Clark did. I would have taken the same line as the trucks in the other video, but would have gone quite a bit faster. I think this has more to do with personal preference then anything else, though.

Kinda what I was thinking. I'm looking at that current and thinking I wouldn't be comfortable doing that without a little insurance.

how in depth have people gotten into sealing their electronics? Or is this even necessary?
if your electronics are getting wet, then so is your interior.
If you don't plan on going deep enough to soak your interior, then your electronics should be ok.
The real problem is when you get stuck in the middle, while you're driving you have the bow wave and momentum to keep water from soaking things, but as soon as you stop the door seals will start leaking and your engine electronics will be submerged.

When you DO get stuck and get a few inches of water in the damn security brain is right under the drivers seat and is the first thing to get wet. To make it shut up just disconnect it, take it apart by hand and clean the circuit board off, good to go.
