Water leaking from headliner - anyone have the same problem?

When it rains (and boy has it lately here in Georgia), water has begun leaking down from the headliner at the back driver side window. I'm assuming either sunroof or roof rack. Anybody have something similar happen to you?

Verify your sunroof drains arent plugged. Mostly that can cause the roof leaks. I seen sunroof leak very badly. :(

I believe Tim and Shawn even have a video on checking them etc. :)

Maybe your hose is kinked or cracked in that area as they have a set running back to the back quarter panels inside and out and a set running into the front rockers for the front set of drains. Looks very close to where the drain hoses run through.

Definitely look into your roof rack screws. Ensure all of them are tight. I had a minor water leak in the trunk area from not tightening the rear screws all the way. Cinched them down nice and snug; leak went away.

You might also consider adding a dab of silicone to the threads to make a good seal. Toyota added some kind of thread locker/silicone from the factory to the threads, but after 20 years, they're dry rotted.
 
Since it's near the back, I would suspect the roof rack screw holes like [MENTION=112124]ToyotaBrah[/MENTION] mentioned over a problem with your sunroof drains. Unscrew all the screws, maybe blow some compressed air in them to clean out any debris and then put a dab of silicone in each screw hole and get the screws tight. I bet this solves your issue.

There is the video I was suggesting take a look at. As it explains all about the sun roof. Could also be the rack bolts too.

Another vote for roof rack. Pulled mine off few weeks ago to replace and vote for cleaning out all holes and add dabs silicone as well. The factory added it for a reason as mine had gobs of it on there.
 
I have the same problem around the pass side rear door. Ironically enough I live in GA too!~ Checking roof rack screws today, I'll try to blow some compressed air through the sunroof drains holes too.
 
Thanks, everybody! Sounds like after 20 years it wouldn't hurt to check both the sunroof drains and the roof rack. All three of my kids are planning on learning to drive on this rig, so I've got to keep it in as good a condition as possible.
 
My '98 4Runner with factory installed roof rack is leaking from one bolt or screw area on the driver's side of the roof rack. Rain comes in the side and runs down the seat belt. Im a 62 yr old woman and can't get any shop to fix it for under $400. I would think sealing that one screw area would fix it and $400 is crazy! Can anyone please tell me how to do it myself? I see about using the 6000 sealant, but don't know where to put it? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Silicone the hole and roof rack area [ around the bracket]. That should seal it. :)

I hate to ask, but do I put the silicone on top of the screw or remove the screw and put the silicone in and the put the screw back?

If you know where the leak is at, then removing the screw and cleaning debris from around the hole and filing the hole with enough silicone that when you tighten the screw it spreads out around the screw head should work.

Hey Mathlete, did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same leak and I tried my roof rack, but no luck in stopping the leak.
