water leaking or coolant

Sorry 1992,3.0 6cyl.A/c does not work.The water is spilling out from behind motor.It overheated and since cannot keep water in it.Leaks out when running or not,with cap on or not.Is there a freeze plug in that area.I can get a mirror to sort of see it coming down,like under the intake manifold,but cannot exactly see where it is leakin from.Also is there some kind of hose there,maybe just a little towards the passenger side.thanks again,Dave

Water or coolant? Just smell it. Does it smell like antifreeze or not?

Do you have to keep putting coolant in it?

Im having the same problem. There's no more coolant in the radiator, so i filled it with water. Ever time i turn on the car it starts to leak all the water out somewhere under the exhaust manifold on the driver side. Do guys have any idea on what this may be a hose maybe a plug ?

This is my 3vze before going back into my truck. See Those hoses going in/down the back of the motor? They all have coolant in them. Could be any one of them.

If you take the plenum off you might be able to get a better look

That would be my guess.

Be careful if you are still driving it. Dont let these motors overheat, very prone to HG failures if that happens.

Sorry Hyde the PM are not working, but is there any way that you can get a picture for me from under the exhaust manifold and the complete driver side of the motor so i can take a closer look?

You sent me 2pms. Haha. The motors been back in the truck since February, so those are the only pictures I have. Sorry.

There arn't any coolant lines under there, there all on the back and in the the valley. I think you just need to start taking stuff apart to find the leak yourself.

Edit: Found one, this is right after it came out of the parts runner. Not much help though.

Yea me to.... Its leaking so bad that im guessing it's running down the back of the head on to the exhaust mani..... then some how getting into the exhaust pipe and leaking from the cat in the rear of the car. What would you suggest that is ?

THAT sounds like a blown headgasket, you left that exhaust part out before. You should not have coolant in your exhaust. And the #6 cylinders are known for that. Does it just drip out or come out in a white cloud?

Drain your oil to check for water coolant and do a compression test.

It leaks like a running fossett running down like a snake to where the exhaust mani bolts to the pipe and that's where it looks like it's getting in. Can a blown head gasket be that bad that coolant would be coming out that much ?

Can you hear an exhaust leak? If exhaust isn't coming out, then waters defiantly not getting in.

call your local dealer and ask if your truck is covered. It is my understanding that if it has not been done before, you would be covered under the recall

I think mine is coming from the valley and then down around motor.I did not know there were hoses in valley.When I said water or collant,I meant ,it depends what I put in it as to what leaks out.Definitely not ac condensation.I overheated the truck.Probably busted the hose.Can you tell me more about the lines under or around the back of motor? maybe a photo of the hose in the valley if your motor is still out.thanks so much,dave

I believe the water hose you are referring to is called the water bypass tube. I am putting my 3.0 back together after rebuilding the top-end, have actually purchased a replacement bypass tube and am installing it today. I will take pictures and share with you later(hopefully). All depends on wife and weather.

There it is, the water bypass tube under the intake. As you can see, two bolts connect the tube to a water passage in the front of the engine. The other end comes out at the back of the intake and connects to several of those clearly visible rubber hoses. I am only replacing mine because I was questioning how long the original would last. Looks pretty weak to me, corrosion was definitely getting the better of it.

Hello I am new to the site. And wanted to know if there was a easier way to fix the water bypass tube? Mine is leaking I have tried a lot of sealers hoping that some thing would help the leak. Because I had thought it was coming from some were else. And then I read your post and said that is it. Also can you drive it with this type of leak? I sure would like some help. Thanks.
