water pump replacement on 2005 ltd V8

I am in the process of having my car repaired from a front end encounter with a deer. They will need to replace the water pump does anyone know if they will need to remove the timing belt in order to replace the water pump? 3 out of 4 dealerships that i have contacted have said yes, the 4th said no.

I just had this repair quoted by two toyota dealers who both said yes. This is one reason they try to do the repair when doing the t-belt, because you already have everything exposed pretty much. This was regarding a '04 V8, but I would imagine it's the exact same.

Thanks Dylan I think that you are right. From everything thatb I have seen I don't how you can remove the water pump without removing the t belt.

The timing belt runs the water pump on the 2UZ-FE engine and will need to be removed to replace the water pump.

If you want to do it yourself I made a write-up for those mechanically inclined.

My question is why would the water pump need to be replaced from a collision its behind the timing cover I think they are referring to the fan idler fake water pump thing. But even to replace that you may as well do the t belt and water pump while your there and if its over 100000 mls I would do all the seals too. Thats the way we always do a t belt job at my shop
