Water pump seal leaking

I just noticed coolant leaking from my water pump seal today. 4runner with V8 has 130k on it and had the timing belt serviced at 100k. The pump was not replaced at that time.

I'm not sure if a new seal would suffice or just bite the bullet and replace the pump. My gut tells me to replace the pump.

Are there any writeups on the job and is this something I could do myself? I have done it on landcruiser's (60's, 40's etc.).

Thanks,
Jason

it is recommended to change the timing belt while the water pump is leaking.

next time remember to change both, will save a lot of labour in a long run.

This why we tell people to do them both at the same time when we recoomend the job. I get that it adds about $250-300 to the price, but now you've got to do it all over again.

Sorry to hear though. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the previous owner only did the tb and not anything else (to the best of my knowledge).

Any writeups out there for the full job? Should I replace the tensioner and idler pulley at the same time? Anything else?

they really do need to be replaced at the same time.

when I replaced my TB & WP it was just barely starting to leak... so yeah sorry you gotta go for round 2.
