WD-40 “Wide Blast” lifesaver

I had this very annoying “creaking sound” when I would get in or out of my rig. It was coming from the driver’s side front – near the caliper. I decided to take the driver’s side front wheel off and check the shock bushing. (Bushing looked fine). I had just put on new tie rod ends and steering rack boots along with new poly sway-bar link bushings. (Greased the poly’s before install).

Long story short, I had a can of WD-40 “Wide Blast” (Wide, soaking spray pattern) and sprayed down all the bushings, links, etc. on the driver’s side front strut assembly, spindle, etc. Also made sure I got some in and around the upper and lower control arm bushing areas (Gonna change these out soon).

Well, low and behold, no more creaks or squeaks. Sprayed the wheel well items and the parts of the frame I could see as well. As WD40 is a water displacement product (as well as a lubricant) I figured it would loosen any dirt/road film so when I pressure wash it, it will come off easier. The frame looks nice and black (like new) and the best part, no creaking! Cheap solution to stopping squeaks, squeals, creaking…..as well as making everything look brand spanking new!!!

The sound was driving me absolutely NUTS and this fixed it. Give it a try!

Just me, but if I were to do that, Id spray one item/area at a time and try to isolate where the noise was coming from. I want to know if a bushing has a tear, metal is rubbing against metal...etc

I actually agree with you! However, after weeks of this annoying ass noise, I just wanted it to stop. This, on top of planning a full front-end (control arm) bushing replacement, I did not see the point of going through multiple steps to solve/find the issue. I do see your point however but again, going to go through and change every bushing out in the next 2-3 weeks. I am doing the rear uppers and lowers first (With Whiteline Poly's) and then do the front.....

I was just really impressed how well WD40 worked! I usually use Aerokroil and getting a new shipment today of that stuff. Never had much luck with WD40 before today......now I know it has some usefulness!!!
