My wife just took delivery on her third 4Runner (previously had 2000 and 2007). The vehicle is outstanding....except for the horn. It is embarassing. I needed to "remind" someone that the light had turned green the other day and used the horn. I thought that the horn had not sounded at all since I really couldn't hear it over the radio. Her previous two 4Runners had nice loud horns, but not this one. The dealer and Toyota say it is what it is. Any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks.

I replaced my horns yesterday with a $30 dollar pair of Fiamm horns from the local auto parts store. WOW! What an improvement. It's about a half hour job. No more "meep, meep"!
Were they just plug n play or did you have to cut any wires?

Plug 'n play. Bolted to the same mount points, too.

No, sorry, but they're the small red ones with chrome "grilles" on them, not the "trumpet" types.

Im gonna dive into it some time today or tomorrow,
Im guessing you just removed the plastic radiator cover and went to work? thats the only way i can see to get to the stock horn, I plan to mount the new pair on the old bracket using the bracket included. I will try to take some pictures of the work. I also told my dealer to listen to the horn in one next time he was in one because it was weak, he said he'd tell toyota at the next meeting and I told him i just spent 25 bucks on a more fitting horn, I think i might put the old one on a bicycle:shrug:

Yeah, I think there are about 14 or 15 clips to be removed (very easy to do), then the radiator cover, then easy access to the horns. You can even use the same connectors - they just slide on.

i just tried to put in the horn i bought and its not a direct fit, it looks almost identical to the fiamm horn but its a different brand and making it work would required some cutting that i dont want to do.
I am going to go back and try and find something else, I might just get a low tone single horn instead of trying to deal with the dual low/high tone horns together.

I believe there are 14 clips holding the radiator cover in place. After removal, bolt the horns in place using the original mount points and just plug the original connections into the horns. Give 'em a test beep, replace the cover and clips and you're all done!
