4Running303 found our campsite coordinates and met us the following morning with donuts, just as promised, and with a new OEM air filter for yours truly! I am not stuffing my face with a donut in this next photo.

We traversed a good portion of the day alongside the Colorado River on dirt roads, and took a short hop through Hagerman Pass just outside of Leadville, Colorado. Hagerman Pass is a rocky, moderate trail that passes through several scenic overlooks, reaching just under 12,000ft elevation before crossing the Continental Divide.

After descending Hagerman Pass, we found a campsite nestled deep within the San Isabelle National Forest, and settled in to our million star hotel beneath the Milky Way. 4Running303 would also need to depart after Leadville to head back home to Denver. Hope to catch you again soon!

We hit pavement to from San Isabelle to Lake City, catching some stunning glimpses of the San Juan Mountains along the way. We filled up, and made our way over to Cinnamon Pass- hoping to hit Poughkeepsie Gulch before dark. Sadly, with daylight rapidly fading and with a storm rolling in, we opted to skip the gulch after just one attempt at scaling the wall.

We rose early the following day, hitting Black Bear Pass, and taking Imogene back to Ouray.

We settled in to our final campsite in the San Juans, and last day in Colorado. Overall, an unforgettable adventure with some friends.

Weeeee, I was taking a look back through your build and I might have missed seeing it but did you do an ARB air locker?

That’s a negative, I haven’t cracked open the clamshells yet. I’m in need of a regear soon, haven’t decided whether I want to drop an ARB locker in when I do.

If you are already swapping, might as well add it and do it once. Well worth it.

Truck is down for rebuild on some wear/tear items, and hopefully a re-wire before I hit Baja in a few months.

In the meantime I figured I'd share some awesome photos from UN12 and Tread Magazine, who featured our trips in their latest mags. NoOneBetter Magnetic4R Gabex35 and a few other friends joined on our trip.

Help keep print alive! The issue of Tread should be in most major bookstores, UN12 is relatively new and you can pick it up at Rainier Arms.

I'm running a Shrockworks filler piece in that photo. It does extend all the way across and retains the stock upper grille. If you have the TRD Pro upper grille it extends all the way across, for the SR5/Trail grills there's a cutout for the factory emblem. I think you mentioned wanting to do the facelift, might as well buy the TRD Pro upper grille instead of the other one.

FWIW if I did it again, I'd probably buy a 2014+ Limited front bumper to cut it- it would be a lot cleaner. Unlike the 2014 SR5/Trail/TRDP models it doesn't have the gills so it'd look a lot similar to the Shrockworks fill pieces except with factory fit and in plastic.

Awesome build man, could you elaborate how you got the “toyota” piece from the grill to fit over the shrock works filler piece? Just double sided tape? Any trimming, etc?

Just trimmed the sides a bit and used industrial double sided tape. The upper grille needs to be spaced up a bit also with a couple washers due to the added thickness if you don’t trim the top. It’s not perfect but it’s held up for a while and doesn’t move at all.

Thank you sir, going to work on that this weekend!

Well, I made it through the entire thread. While working on this quality thread I ordered up the K400 mount I had been slacking on. Finally motivated me to install the CB properly.

I read where you mentioned why you didn't go with the F5's in 17x9. Good choice. I just bumped up to 295/70/17 Nittos with my 17x9 F5's and I'm still finding areas that I need to trim. Maybe I'll get Ray10 and 305s next time around since I have plenty trimmed.

Keep up the great updates! I come from the NWP4life and Honda-tech days. Forums and build threads are important. IG is cool, but you can't beat the forums.

Thanks for the great read and pictures!

Thanks man! Sometimes putting down mods and adventures outside of IG takes a bit of time. I've been slacking quite a bit.

I ended up swapping to 17x9 F5 because of the new fenders, definitely a lot of areas to trim and properly clearance although the added backspacing sure does look awesome.

Cerro Gordo Pass ...

Lost my brand new brakes on the downhill. EBC Green and Stoptech rotors toasted. I guess running Lippencott and South Pass downhill, followed by Cerro Gordo were a little too much.

Sorry for digging up old info, but just thinking about this in the context of some of the brake failure conversations popping up. Was your experience anything like what some others describe, with a sudden loss of braking only to find it working again immediately after? Or, did you truly burn up the pads?

IG is so easy. Shoot, comment, post. The extra effort you put in here is definitely appreciated. I am excited to see future updates whenever they come along.

Ohh yea. I got caught up in this thread and forgot I saw your IG post about 17x9. Love it!

I emailed out about a set of fenders with snorkel cut out. Haven't head anything back yet. Thanks for all the work and down time in order to get these fenders to production! I can't wait to get a set and jump up to 305's. Do the fenders make 305's a walk in the park once BMC and pinch seam are taken care of?

Thanks for the follow on IG! :thumb:

It was a pretty big drop off from it working to not working. Keep in mind this area had a pretty steep grade and I was at full weight. I was already in 2nd gear 4HI to keep off the brakes at first, had to shove it into 4LO 1st gear to get it to slow down after the brakes went out.

I've been hearing McQueen is getting slow at responding lately. I know they're only a 2 man operation and their shop gets busy before/after races as their main business isn't production but one-off race fiberglass. Just keep pinging them.

Once you get the seam weld and BMC done 305s are easier to clear with the fenders, especially with the mount relocation.

Curious,

Was looking to get a Switch-Pros SP-9100 power panel but was curious/didn’t know if you’d recommend in getting a fusebox (Bussman one) as well. Sorry electrical is not my best subject. Many thanks.

The Switchpros kit comes with both the fuse/relay box and the switch panel. You won’t need a separate Bussman box. Hope that helps!
