Hi all,
if anyone can help with the following problem we have with our '97 Toyota 4Runner (manual transmission) that would be greatly appreciated.
The car started right up the other day when I went to drive it down the hill to get the radio fixed. They didn't have any trouble starting it at the shop and the man I worked with said it drove really well. I went back down to the shop to get the car and it started right up. I live on a steep hill, but I drive it up on an alternate route to avoid some of the climb. I parked it in front of my house, turned it off and then noticed that I was a little too far from the curb so I tried to start it again to move it. Nothing happened, not even a clicking noise. The clock and radio turned on so I am guessing that the battery is fine - is that true? About one hour later I went outside and tried to start it again and it started right up. Since I want to sell the car, I would like to make sure that everything is okay as much as that is possible given that the "old lady" has almost 250,000 miles on her.
Does anyone have a clue as to what we should look for? Fuses, coils, cables? I think the following points are important: 1) the car was still warm and had just driven up part of a pretty steep hill (the alternate route cannot avoid the initial climb, Moeser Lane is one of the steepest hills in the East Bay), 2) the car was driven by another family member for several years before who does not live on a hill and thus the car was not driven on hills on a regular basis (I don't know if that makes a difference, but it seems like not having the car start did not happen before like this - not making any noise, not even a clicking sound), 3) the car runs fine otherwise given its age and mileage (17 years/247.000 miles). What the heck!
