Weird gray residue?

So I found this weird gray liquid under my runner today while changing the oil. It's really thick and oily. I have no idea what it is. I thought maybe my XREAS is finally giving but that doesn't look like the fluid I would expect to leak from it. Anyone have any clue what this is? Do I have an alien egg hatching under my runner? That would be cool with me [emoji1]

Check your CV boots for leakage and a rupture.

Yeah, I second jfry008's advice. Looks like the same greasy crap that came out when I ripped a cv boot to shreds a few days ago.

I put on a whopping 1" lift and both my inner boots where they contact the axle shaft started to "ooze". The clips were plenty tight and the boots weren't torn just the change in angle made them leak. I ended up just cleaning everything well and wrapping the area with "rescue tape". It some of the silicone tape that sticks to itself really well but to nothing else. For good measure it got a few wraps of duct tape and some zip ties.

It's been several months and so far so good.... I would have replaced the clips with bigger hose clamps or something but a few threads indicated this might cut through the old boots. I'm going to nurse these until they start clicking.

CV boot makes sense. I'll have to check em out this weekend. XREAS didn't make sense but I was kinda hoping for it so I could have an excuse to get my lift done. Thanks for the help everyone.

For sure it's Xreas fluid then and not CV grease. There, now go lift that thing.
