Weird Idea???? Carpet on rear cargo plastic?

The folks that make the replacement carpet (ACC) sell the stuff in rolls. I am tired of looking at scratches in the plastic around the cargo area and I am thinking of carpeting this. My thoughts are "heavy duty" 3M spray adhesive with screws through grommets. This would add some protection and might even help with sound dampening. Am I nuts? Anyone else done something like this???

Does anyone know if ACC stopped selling the cargo floor vinyl? I went looking the other day to complete the vinyl floor in my truck, but couldn't find the cargo portion anywhere.
