Weird noise when I hits the brakes

Hello I just started noticing a weird sound.

Vehicle is garaged...I get in my 4Runner, start it up press the brake to put in reverse the next time I hit the brake to ease out of the garage I get a loud knock sound. Then the rest of the day I never really experience it again.

I was thinking maybe it was a caliper, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to grease your drive shafts. There are zerk fittings for the u joints and one for the shaft

Thanks for the response, I did that about 2 months ago (I was getting that surge while at a stop light)... I was told there were 6 on the rear shaft after investigating could only find 3, I guess there's a front shaft that has some also....????

If I get some time I'll shimmy under that hit them all up again.

Sounds like the pads are slipping in the calipers. Mine does the same thing.

Sounds like maybe you brake pad pins need grease or you dont have pad springs in place.

I did the rear brakes myself back in April, I greased the pins and used all hardware that came in the box. I also took a wire brush to the caliper brackets before putting everything back.

I have a popping to. It ended up being the lower control arm bushing going bad.
