weird starting issues

hi all-- so i have a 2001 4runner V6 3.4L. it has been having weird startup issues. just had the starter replaced, and a new battery put in. cold this morning and yesterday morning- wouldn't start on first try- sounds like it just doesn't catch- eh, eh, eh,- then turn the key back and try to start again- starts right up. any thoughts? losing my mind here- thanks

I would say check all your connections, but you also could have gotten a bad battery.

have the battery checked to make sure it is good, when the starter was replaced was there damage to the flywheel any missing teeth?

Not sure what auto stores are in your area, but Advanced Auto near me will test batteries or free. You might want to have the battery tested at an auto store to find out for sure if that may be the issue or need to troubleshoot elsewhere. I had a similar issue on another vehicle years ago and it turned out to be a bad ground (lots of trial and error trying different things to figure it out).

Make sure your cable clamps are tight on the battery posts. Try to twist the clamps - if they move they are loose.

Also check any other connections that may have been changed during the replacements.
