I had to hit my brakes fairly hard to come to a stop from about 30 mph. . . .never engaged anti-lock though. When I went to go again it was like it was in limp mode and would barely accelerate. It jerked a little then accelerated better. I slowed down for traffic and it did it again. I drove another mile with 2 stops and it continued. I parked it and finished off my work day. When I left work everything was back to normal and it went like a champ. Any ideas what happened?

Have you tried lubing your drive shafts? its a common problem with 4th gens. It makes it so that it jerks a bit when getting to a complete stop and when accelerating again.

Can we get more infor on your truck? Year, miles, engine, etc. Sounds like a transmission issue.
'04 sport 4wd V8 with 110k. Tranny fluid exchanged 1 year ago. My thought was tranny also at first, but it felt more like all 4 brakes were being applied. The engine did not race, it was as if it was being held back. I was then thinking if it was not something in the brake system. All 4 rotors were hot, but I could quickly touch them with a finger and not get burned. It is still working just fine so I am not really worried about it, just curious as to what it might have been.

I had a similar experience happen a couple of times with my 4Runner that sounds similar to your experience.
About a year after I bought my 4R, I had to stand on the brakes to avoid hitting a car that pulled out in front of me. The ABS kicked in just a bit, but I noticed for the rest of my drive after that indecent (which was only a few more miles), it took quite a bit more brake input to come to a stop. That has since happened a couple of times since then but it always goes away. It might also have something to do with the slowed acceleration because I believe the ABS is tied into the VSC system.
As long as it has gone away and doesn't return on a regular basis, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

did any of the VSC lights come on by chance? sometimes they do sometimes they don't however, whenever the computer reads some kind of issue it will put the vehicle in "limp mode" it wont build very high RPM's when in limp mode the vehicle is basic just supposed to get you to a safe place where you can turn the truck off and access whats going on.
It could be something like the throttle body was a little sticky opening up and set it off or one of the sensors got a bad reading for whatever reason. Either way when you turned the truck off and restarted it you cleared the vehicle of limp mode.
All you can do really is make sure everything's serviced properly, clean your MAF sensor, and your throttle body. just keep an eye on things to see what happens if it comes up again.

No, there were no lights of any kind. I am sure it sensed something at least temporarily and put it in limp mode like you said. When I restarted about 30 minutes later it was just fine and continues to be. Thanks for the ideas.
