so i realized after looking at the past thread i made about my new (to me) 05 sport, that my hood has this stupid bug deflector and the metal brackets have wreaked havoc on the hood... do i take the deflector off or leave it on? im debating having a body shop throw me a quote to fix whats messed up..

edit: while im at it im going to ask my other questions

1) Has anyone done a double din dvd player? cheers/jeers?
2) Is there a quick/easy mod to get the fog lights to come on with just the parking lights instead of needing to turn the headlights on
3) what other quick easy mods can you guys plant in my head so i can start tinkering

Any pics? I have a bug deflector on mine and the only way it's secured to the hood is by two screws on the outside. What damage did it do?

I think I have the same bug deflector as you, but my hood remained fine. Think you can take a picture of the damage for me? As for #2, I think this is what you're looking for:
Independent Fog Light Mod

And for #3 - Maybe remove running boards/steps?

Leave the bug deflector on, it won't cost you a dime that way. But if it really bothers you spend a hundred bucks (or a couple) and get it all fixed up professionally.

1) No experience, Toyota navi/dvd player is on my wish list. If you can get it for less than $500, youre getting a good deal.
2) Foglight Mod- Toyota 4Runner Independent use of Fog Light Mod
3) Look around the previously linked site. There's a bunch of cheap mods and info available he provides.

My Taco has a bug deflector on it, same age as yours, I hate them but am half scared to take it off in case I find the same as you did... I'd be tempted to leave it unless you got the cash to fix it.

1. I put in a double din dvd player in my 4Runner, it's great. I like the factory system, but wanted DVD, iPod hookup, satellite radio all built in, left the rest of the system alone (well, added a 10" sub to it too) and works great. You'll need a Pac TATO adaptor if you have JBL. Trickiest part seems to be the trim plate, it seems to work with some people, mine didn't work at all, I have 2 big gaps on either side. Apparantly the urban runner trim ring might be the fix.
