Well, it was a fun experiment

But, I have come to the final conclusion that I'm just not a car person. Looking to get back into the a 4Runner after a short 6-month hiatus. As much as I've enjoyed the gas mileage, it's just not what I want.

So, I have a couple options I'm toying with currently, looking for opinions:

2006 Limited

This one has 88k, thought the price was decent. Drove it and shocks felt solid and mechanically it was sound. Only concern I have is that there is a slight grind going into 4Lo that I didn't have on my '04.

This one would be one of the most cosmetically poor vehicles I've ever bought. There is a scuff or scratch on just about every body panel. Looks like a college kid used it at school and just didn't give a damn about what they bumped. However, the undercarriage is impressively clean. Looks like a southern truck.

I have a verbal offer in on it for 15,800. They seemed open to that number.

2008 Sport

This one has 100k, and is much nicer cosmetically than the 06. XREAS is a little soft, but still serviceable for a year or two. 4wd shifted smoother, has TRD cat-back exhaust. Has a brake controller on it, so was used for some towing. Accident on the record, but was a small fender-bender.

Frame looked standard for mileage. Nothing overly glaring in terms of rust. Non-matching rear tires and some serious corrosion on the wheels. Front tires are BN. No service records past 60k miles on the Toyota site.

I said I'd be comfortable at 14,600, and again, they were open to it.

Which would you go for? I'm more torn on mileage than anything else, as my car has less than 20k on it so I'd be trading for a higher mileage vehicle. BUT, 4Runners will hold value better than the Mazda.

Any thoughts appreciated.

06 and a trip to the bodyshop? Wonder if the actuator would loosen up a bit after exercising the 4x4?

I would go with the 08 Sport. Then just use some aircraft stripper on the wheels and repaint. I just think the Sports look better, plus I wouldn't want to find out how much the transfer case issue could cost you.

Im picky so if it were me I would keep looking. Both have issues and fixing them could possibly put your cost over their value imo.
