Well shouldn't have done that... rear hatch window issue

So I bought my 03 4runner sport in February. I love it. Since I got it the rear hatch window never rolled down. I could hear a click on the back hatch when id press the button but nothing would happen. The rear wiper and defrost didn't work when I bought it, then worked for a little bit and stopped working again recently so I decided to see why the rear window didn't work today. I pulled the panel off the interior and there it was... an unhooked connector. I should have known then that there was a reason it was unplugged. Well I plugged it in and attempted to operate the rear window. It went down... And stayed down. The motor won't go up it's froze. So time to go to the dealer and see what it will cost to do the motor. Yay! Should have known to have just left it lol.

Check for voltage on the connector while trying to close it. If you don't know what pin it is you can hunt through the wiring diagram to figure that part out. If there is voltage the actuator may have a problem. If not try jumping the open window power pin to the close window pin on the motor. The window motor will need to be grounded, of course.

I did this on my 96 Camry. Eventually I had to resolder all of the door wires because they all broke from opening and closing over and over.
 
I was almost 95% positive that this was going to be a shattered rear glass defrost thread when I looked at the title.

I agree with trying to confirm if there is voltage going to the motor, and if there isn't bypassing it and making it go up.

Perhaps its a switch issue or something else but I would do as much troubleshooting before walking into a dealer.
 
Temporary fix to close the window

Not sure if there's enough room to do it while it's still in the tailgate - take the motor off from the regulator, you'll then be able to slide the glass up and down. You'll need a pair of small vice grips to keep the regulator from "scissoring" (get your mind out the gutter LOL) back to the open position.
 
Yikes... I had the same thing happen with my sunroof. It was raining on my test drive, I almost drove under something to test it..but figured it was good as I got it at a Toyota Dealership... LOL NOPE. Didn't find out it was busted till I got home. I even found the service record online where the dealership I bought it from said they disconnected it... You think they would have told me that when I bought it. Oh well. I got it to close by pushing the close button and helping it along. Something was jamming up a sensor. Might be something similar.

Can you try putting the key in the rear hatch and turning it clockwise. (Top to passenger, Bottom to driver) See if it goes up? Had an unrelated electrical problem and I could only operate the rear hatch on mine with the key in the door.
