so my remote for the runner broke off month ago, i've been carrying it seperately, in the back of my head im thinking Hmm i'll probly lose this, and sure enough it can't find it today, locked the truck went back to my apt. now its nowhere to be found, i did the whole flip the house retrace my step thing. so now the question is wtf do it do. because the truck is armed, i can unlock the truck but once i open the door alarm will go off and there is no way to shut it without the remote. and lets say i do get a new remote can i still program it in the truck with the alarm going off?

Unhook battery so alarm shuts off. Then there is a fuse under the dash between the alarm indicator light and valet button. You should be able to find it if you follow those wires. This is what I did. Also this for the factory alarm. But I imagine others are similar.
 
These are the only options I see.


1) Open door with Key, pop hood, unplug battery
2) Open door with Key, look in dash for Alarm unit and unplug it
3) Light it on fire.

so with that unplugged i can still drive the truck?
 
as long as you have the key, unlock the door, open it. The alarm will freak for a few seconds until you start the vehicle. I checked this because I got spare keys from the dealer for my wife but didn't want to pay for the FOB. Getting the ignition to turn was a bit finickey with all the ruckus and you may have to wiggle the steering wheel. Soon as it recognizes the correct ignition key, it'll shut off. Might piss off your neighbors-
 
i heard stick your key in the ignition and turing it on nd off couple times will turn it off, or lock and unlock the door couple times, or press the button on the alarm unit a couple times, guess i'll have to try all of those.

Actually you can override the alarm by turning the key twice. Just turn the key twice and you are good to go. It isn't exactly a strong security system.
 
Look into replacing it with a two way such as viper or python. I got the python 990 for my dad's back when I used to work at Circuit City, and its been going strong for 6 years now.

Well the catch is my alarm is from a 97 Limited. Not all the years had factory installed alarms, most (overwhelmingly) were installed by dealers.

On mine (& I assume other 97s) you only have to turn the key twice to override.

But I have more than just an alarm. I also have a kill switch, tinted windows and a truck club.

mine was factory, 98 limited.
 
I always tell people, "How do you think your parents had to lock their vehicles? They didn't have fancy Viper security systems and such and were still able to hold onto their Challengers, Chargers and Roadrunners."

HINT: Get a 2 or 3-way Viper system. I have had mine since I've owned my vehicle and I love it. The remote goes ape sh!t when someone touches my truck and I run outside. I got towed at my beach the other day and was in a restaurant. My remote was going off but it sounded like the waittress's walkie-talkie. I put my keys on the table and heard it come from my remote. Ran outside and my truck was gone. I got to hear my remote scream as my truck sat on a flatbed hitting speedbumps. I at least knew my truck was being messed with. I love my Viper System. I will never go with anything else. Oh yeah, my tow ticket was $150 for parking in an empty lot for some shitty hotel. They called to get me towed, in an EMPTY LOT! The restaurant I went to uses the meters on the street. Its in the TOURIST trap part of the beach so every step you take costs money. I was thinking about burning that snitch hotel down someday.

DISCLAIMER: No one use this comment against when that place magically burns to the ground.

I walked 3 miles in sandals to pay some old pedafile in a conex box, for my truck. I could've burned that little shithole to the ground too! I just wanna burn something.. Its Friday.
