Went to start the truck today and got nothing

Truck had power when I used the keyless entry, interior lights turned on when i opened the door, dashlights and stereo powered up for a second when I turned the ignition to start. Then nothing.... all power just shut off. Popped the hood and all i could tell is the head relay was clicking. It was dark and I don't have a garage to work out of so i just closed the hood till i get off work tomorrow.

I lost power to my back window and rear wiper over the winter. Haven't had a chance to trace the problem yet as it's still fairly cool. Could there be some sort of short related to the back wiper? Haven't really done any electrical work other than install a deck last summer... but i've been using the truck about 300kms/month since the install. I don't think it's related to the deck. Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions.

I just went through the same thing with my rig.....The battery was no good! Try taking out the battery, take it to Canadian Tire, have them do a load test on it....they'll tell you if it's screwed.

If the battery is good, then something is draining the power out of it, so you need to do some looking around to see if any of the wiring you messed with when doing the Stereo install, is maybe shorting out.....it may be draining the battery......

Was your head relay clicking away too?

I will try the battery. Not convinced it is the battery because when my battery is low I usually have an idea. Was your head relay clicking as well?

I'm going to try pulling out the fuses and relays to see if this stops any of the clicking. Maybe I can somehow isolate the problem if I can narrow down what is causing the relay to click. (provided I still have juice by the time I get back tonight should've just pulled the power on the battery)

I think I'll try with both the deck and not sure but is there a fuse or relay for the back window and wiper?

Any other suggestions you guys have would be a great help. Thanks
 
I don't know much about electrical, especially relays and such....but my truck was producing a clicking sound as well.......turned out I had a bad battery, 2 out of 6 cells had frozen! My other issue, I had a screw that was causing a dead short in my auxiliary driving lights........that's why I suggested you look over your wiring in the stereo....might have a wire pinched or something....

Well just got home and pulled fuses and relays one at a time till the clicking stopped to try to isolate the problem. Turns out it was the domelight fuse. The fuse wasn't blown but it would cause the head relay to click everytime the door opened.

Ok so I tried pulling the bulbs one at a time to try and pinpoint where the problem was. No luck I ended up with all the bulbs sitting on my seat and the relay still clicking away.

Figured i'd remove the battery and charge it while I was at it. My battery was at 86% but what the hey. It wouldn't hurt. Charged and hooked it back up. Miraculously the clicking disappeared. Cranked and she started like nothing ever happened?!?! Even my back window goes up and down now... the rear wiper still isn't working. Put all the bulbs back in and still no problems?

This is going to bug me now... even though the truck is working again does anybody have any idea what is going on with my baby? I still think it has something to do with the back wiper and window because they stopped working in the winter and I couldn't get it up and running again (too cold). Now all of a sudden the back window works. Any thoughts guys?:shrug:
 
You need to get the battery checked out under load to make sure it is good as mentioned....Secondly you can use your multi-meter to check and see if you have a closed/open circuit when the key is off, causing a phantom electrical issue.
 
I'm also gonna still recommend getting the battery tested. I charged my original up as well, at full charge, but then it would die almost instantly. Yours may not be in as bad of shape as mine was, but it may also be FUBAR'd.....

Also, you may be on to something with the rear wiper. It may have a dead short on it somewhere, so try to get a look at the wiring, or like the last guy said.....check with a multi-meter....if you have one.

Lol! It's just commonly called crappy tire. It's convenient let's just put it that way. We get our staples there like oil wipers and whatnot. Stuff like parts I'd rather get somewhere else.

Well got a load test done on the battery and everything is fine. Looks like I'll have to dig deeper.
 
Do you have a multi-meter or a test light? You can use that to see if you have any power being drained when you have the key off...then start chasing it down from there.
