Wet driver's side carpet

I've searched the threads, but I'm still confused. My sunroof drains are clear. Went through all of them with weed whip cord. It hasn't rained in ten days. I took an all day road trip with the family yesterday with the a/c on all day. Now the carpet on the driver's side is wet. Passenger's is bone dry. The only moisture the outside has seen is from the windshield washer. Any thoughts?

We've had enough humidity recently here in Wisconsin that I see a fair amount of condensate draining out of the passenger side vicinity onto the pavement after driving a while with the a/c on.

Do you have a similar puddle? If not, you may have a blockage in the drain from your evaporator core.
 
Is it for sure just plain water, or does it feel slick? Heater cores are known to leak coolant inside the vehicle.
 
Check coolant level to verify you haven’t lost a bunch. Usually if the heater core is leaking it will smell strongly of coolant in the cab. Most likely the drain for the a/c is clogged up and the condensate is overflowing out of the ducts. The drain is on the passenger side floor. It’s a rubber hose that comes off the duct work down there. It should just drain down onto the ground.

I bet you ran some wires into the drivers side cab though the rubber seal on the firewall. water pours right on the firewall. If you didnt you should still check the rubber.


I got a bunch by the drivers feet floor. found out it was going through the firewall. I used silicone to re seal everything. It started happening again after years of working fine. So I checked and the silicone was old and not sealing anymore so I had to re apply.

Mine did this recently (4th gen... but still)
The drain hose for the AC was clogged with... who knows. Use compressed air to clear the line. If water doesn't come out... IDK what you have going on.

If water pours out, that's your problem.

But wait... theres more..

It will clog again... Pour a cup or so of bleach in that hose. You'll have to make a contraption with a funnel, hose and barb... Let it soak. Viola...

I would put money on this. Had it happen on my '97, [MENTION=99565]kolelt[/MENTION] had it happen to him- very common mistake.

A couple more things-

A piece of string trimmer line works really well to run through these tubes, and also the sun roof drain tubes. If you choose to use compressed air, throttle the pressure back. Blowing apart hidden tubing junctions is a very real possibility.

When using your a/c during very humid weather use the “recirculate” setting rather than outside air. The air being pulled from your cabin into the evap core will become cooler and drier than outside air and will produce colder air from your a/c with less condensate to drain off.
 
Wet driver side carpet :

Oem gromet through firewall is damaged/to many wires
Sun roofs rain is clogged
Driver side door weather strip is bad
Rocker panels are getting over flooded ( that’s where the sun roof drain tubes drain into )

Based on this info none of the above works for me.

Usually a/c condensate shows up on the passenger floor but it’s not unheard of for the water to be spilled onto the driver’s side during a strong right turn.

I've had LOTS of water pour in from the firewall grommet in the rain and it has sat under the carpet for longer than 10 days.. so.. there's that:dancin:

Yup! And- depending on your floor mats- you can have a wet floor for QUITE a while before you catch it.
 
The carpet was dry 2 days before my all day trip. The drains for the sunroof were checked 3 weeks ago and no clogs. I thought it may have been the weather stripping, but bnb it hadn't rained for 10 days. Any pictures for the a/c condenser location available?

The drain is located on the passenger side of the firewall. You can just see a small pipe on the left of the picture here (looking in from passenger wheel well):

If that was clogged, I would expect the passenger footwell to get wet, not the driver's side.

Same Problem

I just bought my first 4Runner and its got a good amount of work that needs to be done. I also have a wet/damp driver side only floor board. Not puddles of water but enough it made me start wondering what it was from. Does anyone have any better pictures of this line you are saying to clear? Do you do it from inside the cabin or from the engine bay?? All help is much appreciated!!!
 
First make sure that firewall grommet is 100% sealed.

Water pours right over that if the truck is sitting in the rain.
