I think im going to wait and see if BFG will release the ko2 in a 255 option if not I may go with the Cooper ST.. i like the Coopers they ride pretty nice and for the most part have gotten my out of sticky situations I just need more tire to fill the wheel well since my lift

Why not try to see if you can fit the 34x10.5x17 KO2? Once its time for me to get new tires after a lift I am going to try those out.

Good excuse to upgrade to 17s. It's easier to find tires for 17" wheels anyways.

if you are willing to get new rims id get those 34" ko2s, they are awesome, one of the 5th gen guys we wheel with has them and he didnt even have to trim anything to fit them.
a 255/85r16 km2 is 33.3 according to bfg, the 34x10.5r17 is 33.5 and the same width as a stock tire. I have the e range 315/75r16s and they are quiet and air down quite well(originally i thought they were stiff but my tire gauge was telling me 15psi when it was really 25). I already have 10k miles on mine and the only signs of wear are from rubbing while flexing, but that comes with the territory of big tires.
small tires handle great on the road, but the reality is that a big tire is extra suspension travel offroad because you air them down to a low pressure. the whole unsprung weight arguement goes through the window once you air them down because the tire becomes a spring.
btw if you dont air down offroad youre kicking yourself in the dick.

Wow never knew 16" wheel tires where rare. When did this happen?
I've been running 255/85r16 toyo m/t for a while. Had them on my 3rd gen with no lift, stock gears & 5speed, and now on my 4th gen (which needed to be lifted slightly to fit)
My brother has the 255/85r16 bfg km2's on his 3rd gen with no lift, stock gearing & 5speed.
The toyo's are quite a bit heavier vs. the bfgs (just under 10 lbs per tire) but both seem to be wearing at a similar rate.
It looks like toyo still offers the m-55 in the 255/85r16 size as well. Not quite as aggressive as the mud terrain patterns, but still a good strong tire.
I love my tall skinnys. They fit the stock rims; no scrub from incorrect offset rims, and you can fit a taller tire with less lift.

the main reason is because there are very very very few floatation size tires for a 16" rim. 17" rims will have both metric(think 315/70r17) and floatation size tires(think 35x12.5x17) and the floatation tires come in more load ranges as well.

I never said rare but all of the tires guys I talk to said that they probably will be phasing out a lot of the tires for 16s just like they did for 15s.

Hey man, have you been able to find a good way to search for tires in this size? Only time I've been able to find tires in this size is by happening upon them when looking at specific tires. It'd be great to just be able to search for that size on some website, but I can't seem to find a site that can do that.
I'm thinking those tires would be the perfect size for a 'Runner with a 3" lift, and some 4.88's. I have 255's now, but the Cooper S/T Maxx's are only 32.8 inches tall, and seem a little too small for 4.88's and long highway drives.

I didn't realize your rig was geared too...
I usually look for strange size tires like that by going to tire rack and clicking on other sizes and looking through there. Not the best way, but not sure if there is a better way on the big sites for regular people like tirerack haha
