So I'm attempting to replace the fuel pump and cringed when I saw this.

I am soaking them in Kroil but I have a bad feeling they will snap.

What do you guys think?

maybe not a torch. but soak in penetrating oil and hit with an electric heat gun, some of those reach near 1200*

you might be better off than you think

Also don't those go thru a rubber gasket, the threads may not be screwed, just the heads.

But I'm from California, all mine was covered in was dust..

maybe a whack with a hand held impact driver after a good soak with the kroil

Soak with kroil or pb-blaster. A lot. You probably have one chance to back out each screw before the head strips. Make the first try count- be patient with the kroil. It helps to gently tap the screws and plate with a small hammer to encourage kroil to penetrate into the threads.

If you ever wanted a hand held impact, now is the time to buy one. Start by actually tightening it, then loosening. You want to break the rust bond to the metal so to speak.

Well patience is the number one trick in getting out rusty bolts so i am spraying, banging, wire-brushing for a day before attempting.

I do have a 1/2" impact gun from HF that I bought in the late 2000's that has been awesome at getting bolts out but I really like that stubby Milwaukee. It is going on my wish list. I recently bought that extractor set to remove the stripped upper shock bolts on my 2k XJ.

I think guys are talking about a hand held one you hit with a hammer.

Have you ever used a variable speed air impact? You can slow them down quite easily to where you could do one strike with a light tug. I'd argue that it would be better to operate with a smaller rotational force strike than a larger, potentially unwieldy one (user error)

Put the appropriate sized box end wrench on them. Keep pressure on the wrench and tap (meaning don't sledge hammer) the end of the wrench with a hammer. The shock load will sometimes break them free. Whatever you do don't try to use a impact because that might break the bolt heads off.

those are essentially screws, not really bolts. they probably have a torque value well below the lowest setting of any impact gun. maybe even in inch lbs.
and yes I've used an impact gun many times.

The post above has a great idea. put a box wrench on them, put slight pressure to remove it, while tapping straight down on the head.
