What are these parts on my 4runner?

I recently bought an 02 SR5. There's been a couple of nagging questions.

First of all is the rear bumper. It has 4 little plugs. I'm 99% sure that they are basically the park/assist proximity sensors except:
1) I didn't know 3rd gen 4runners ever came with that feature. It's a 2wd 2002 with few (if any) options. Seems unlikely that it would have the park assist option.

2). They never beep.

Any ideas?

Second is this little red button to the left of the steering wheel. By all appearances it has an 'aftermarket' look to it, yet I saw it in at least one other 4runner I was looking at. My current assumption is that it's a common mod. However, searching for various iterations of 'red button' on this site hasn't helped me at all.

Who knows what this thing does?

Well, when your in a high speed pursuit, press the red button have oil come out of the holes in the back, so that the person behind slip and crashes.

But really you're right about the park assist, but the red button, I dunno what it is for.

the only thing I can come up with is that the red button turns the park assist on and off. The 4Runner (3rd gen) never had rear park assist as an option. It prolly was put in aftermarket. The red button, well im just guessing, but every car I have been in with park assist, there is a way to override the system, so I'm guessing that red button overrrides park assist and turns it off. Try playing with it when your backing up....

Is there anything behind the bumper plugs? If you look up under there or stick your hand up under there do you see/feel anything? If not, then that would explain why there are no 'beeps', the previous owner my have removed the system prior to selling but left the red button for visual purposes.
I like the oil slick idea too..... or some little rockets to blow up the occassional stupid/moron driver infront of you sometimes....

Don't suppose the red button's for an aftermarket alarm system...

The aftermarket alarm system in my F150 (don't have one in my 4runner) has a kill switch inside that is a small red button like that, only it's hidden behind a panel and cannot be seen.

Truck doesn't appear to have an aftermarket alarm... (no extra key fob or anything). Could have been removed prior to sale though. The red button appears to be the kind of button that can light up, but it does not light up when pressed.

Perhaps the park assist works by flashing the red light instead of beeping? Have you ever seen it flash at all?
