What are you doing for additional lift?

So i have an icon stage 2 setup with 275/70r17s now and I just got back from a Moab trip with a bunch of 5th gens with similar lifts yet theirs made mine look stock. I was having major height envy! I know the 5th gens hood and cab are higher but even some of the ground clearance seemed much better in the 5th gens. When sitting next to me, they just sat higher than me in the cab too. So now i'm looking for ways to get more clearance and overall height. I'm assuming most people from here just get a BL, is there anything else we can do with the 4 runners?

I can crank the coils a little to get more height from them and will probably get the overland springs soon to reduce sag when loaded. In the future, I'd love to fit a 305 tire too.

I'm also curious to know if body mounts wear out and if I replaced them if I should get some height back. I just put on sliders and they're way closer to the body then expected so it just made me think, maybe the mounts can be worn out too.

Long Travel Kit... that's literally the only thing on my suspension to-do list now...

Yeah, I was afraid of that... i want the 2" TC but can't affort that right now. Have you priced that out including everything you'll need (LT kit, CV axels, new fenders, etc)?

I want long travel real bad...but my 1" BL looks higher than it sounds. For a cheap and quick install, highly suggest it if you want more height. That might enable you to fit 285s as well to get a little extra height. Pretty sure with my lift and body mount chop, a 305 could fit in there.

35's will fit easy with a 1" BL. 35's would even fit easy without a BL, you just have to trim and adjust your alignment.

If you are jealous of them sitting higher than you, you can always raise your seat up!

Height isn't everything.

You can do without fenders on a +2

But Yes... My 4Runner is pretty much an off-road toy so my plans are to go with the +3.5" for a 7" track increase, but after pricing it up I generally throw a small tantrum because it is really expensive.

I intend on going with a secondary king shock on the front otherwise I won't even do it.

I've come close to pulling the trigger on it, but its the rear suspension design that is killing me... My plans are to cut the fender wells and bring the shock towers into the cab, then sheet metal a shroud around it to keep the outside out.

I intend to do all the install, fabrication, and welding myself to save a few bucks.

Its part of my long terms plans with this truck, but its getting to a price point where I am starting to wonder if buying building a Class 1 buggy is a better idea. I still like that I can street the 4Runner and still use it in other off-road applications aside from just desert running.

End of the day its still a jack of all trades and master of none... just a more expensive one.

Yeah, that sounds like that's what I'm going to have to do for now. The bummer is I just got new rock sliders and they were built assuming no BL.

I have a hard time believing 35" tires will fit easily without major rubbing. I have 275s now and on rocky trails with full articulation, my 275s rub on the fender even in the rear. In the front, they're rubbing the body mount and my caster is already adjusted between 3.5-4 degrees. And I'm not even running spacers which would make that worse.

The 1" body lift would definitely help with the rubbing on the fender and body mount chop will help too. Maybe I'll just have to do that for now and figure out how to get my sliders adjusted.

You could try 5 or 6 degrees on the castor if you can adjust that far. Limit your uptravel or get the Metaltech LT kit in the rear if you don't do the body lift. Another option, add a diff drop, throw on a top hat spacer, lower your bump stops.

I doubt there's any real difference between a stock 4th gen and a stock 5th gen 4WD. Toyota's specs the 5th gen is 9.6" minimum ground clearance, 4th gen is 9.1" minimum ground clearance. 5th gen has a .5" larger tire stock, that's the difference.

Either edition you lift to get better approach/departure angles, slap a larger tire on for real ground clearance. 4th gen has the V8, that's a big deal IMO.

What type of sliders do you have? Bolt or weld on? Maybe someone in SD needs sliders and can work out a trade?

yeah, the visual differences are that the 5th gen has a higher roof and hood line and the front seats sit higher. Also, their wheel wells are wider to make fitting larger tires easier and the top of the wheel well seem to be higher. The rear seems to have a better departure angle or mine is just sagging more. My rear bumper was about 1-2" lower than theirs.

I have U-bolt ones so I can either weld them on higher or get new brackets welded on to move them up. It's doable just an added expesnse.

I really didn't want a body lift, but it seems like that might be my best option at this point. I'd probably only do a 1" BL. Then eventually the plan is to have custom front and rear bumpers for better approach/departure angles and to move my hitch way up.

I asked Demello to adjust my sliders for a 1" BL...they didn't. But I actually don't mind the 1" gap between door and slider. Actually serves as a better step. Can always drill out holes 1" lower on the sliders to move them up 1". Unless you got weld on...

35s and 2-3" lift checking in.

Its possible and rather easy.

35s will make your life feel much more complete.

I want to do 34's.. 285/75's.. I have a 3 inch lift, stock bumper and I have welded on sliders already, im contemplating whether or not I should do a body lift or a BM chop or both.. don't the sliders end up looking weird if you cant adjust the difference after the body lift? Or do you think I can fit that without the body lift and just some trimming and and BM chop.

I was looking at tires and I'm thinking the same...I think I'll do Toyo OC ATII 285/75r17 extreme.

I'm going to have my sliders adjusted but mine are bolted on. I know some guys just leave them but I want the sliders higher.

So after going to a 34-35" tire, what gears are most guys running then with the V8?

You don't need to regear, my brother's FJ (V6) is fine with 305/70/17 MT/R's and all the armor, lift, and aerodynamics of a brick. If you towed frequently, you should get gears. You're not going to hurt anything trying the tires out first, especially since you have a transmission cooler.
