What are you doing for additional lift?

You don't need to regear, my brother's FJ (V6) is fine with 305/70/17 MT/R's and all the armor, lift, and aerodynamics of a brick. If you towed frequently, you should get gears. You're not going to hurt anything trying the tires out first, especially since you have a transmission cooler.

you don't have to re-gear but I would want to so my transmission isn't searching for gears on the freeways and I don't lose all the low-end torque. I won't necessarily do it right away, but I'll want to do it soon after.

Actually I have the v6. Haven't done a regear neither. Doesn't have that hit the pedal and getty up and gone anymore, but manageable. In my searches, 4.56 would get me just a little lower gear set than stock size tires.

Think it came out to 4.26 to be equal to 3.73

I was looking at tires and I'm thinking the same...I think I'll do Toyo OC ATII 285/75r17 extreme.

I'm going to have my sliders adjusted but mine are bolted on. I know some guys just leave them but I want the sliders higher.

So after going to a 34-35" tire, what gears are most guys running then with the V8?

I still have 32's unfortunately.. Im only just in the process of figuring out my next move to get this done. As of now the plan is 1 inch BL with a body mount chop and some trimming..
As far as gears If you have the v8 its probably not necessary only optional. I don't have any plans to do gears in the near future either.

Wow!! Now that's a lift. With lift spindles, does that mean you have 2wd? If not which spindles are you using?

Not sure if I am down with the body lift... I see you get ground clearance but not sure if the center of gravity compromise is really worth it.

I'm guessing it does nothing for actual suspension travel (droop or compression), or does it?

That said, if getting high was the goal, looks like ur achieving it.

The difference in the COG is negligible with a 1" body lift.

Stock gears, man. Feels fine, still plenty of power.

If your going into the 35 range, even with the BM chop, you'll have to max your back cams to get the tire off of it. Then they will be in your stock bumper. I'm having to trim my SW bumper for full compression. But I have no BL.

886 coils put me over the 3" lift in the front. V6

Yeah. I figure the only benefit of having a 2wd is the ability to lift it 9 inches, so why not! The black one is mine too and I plan on just adding a Toytec Boss lift to that one with some 285's, but that's down the road.

Yep, lift was the #1 goal. The BL does nothing for you suspension wise other than give you some more room to clear larger tires. Right now I have 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers on it, but they are worn and ready to be replaced. The largest tire I can fit on the Trail Edition rim is 285/75/17, so I will probably go with the Trail Grappler next in that size, which is a 34" tire. Should look mean...

Just have to find a hole in the wall place to mount above 285s on stock rims.
My 315s seat just fine on 7.5 rims.

I don't have issues with hunting at freeway speeds, turns sub-2000rpm in 5th gear cruising 70-ish all day. But the take-off is a bit more sluggish (I think I'm closer to 10 seconds 0-60 vs. the 7.8 factory). It's not lacking for power even with 35's, bumper, armor, ect. but she's a bit more sluggish than she used to be. I'd say not as bad as the V6, but noticeable compared to a stock V8; you can still do recovery and towing with the vehicle if need be, the V8 gives you much more overhead to work with once you'd modded it and weighed it down vs. the V6 (having driven and ridden in a couple heavily modded V6's there is a much larger loss in "pep" with those if not regeared).

I'm planning on regearing eventually to get some of that lower end pep back, but it's a pain because in the V8's you have to do both front and rear equally and if I'm going to do that I might as well do lockers as well.

i have not regeared yet, my trans is just fine thus far.
