Here are some more decent shots with my Canon: I like the one of my lab Bailey at a local park.

Lens wise Canon's are the best but really expensive, tokina and sigma are also pretty good lenses; I can't remember if Canon's 10-22 Wide Angle lens fits your camera but that would be a great investment, or you could go with the Sigma 10-24 and I think Tokina's is the 10-20 or something

I'll bite... Are you saying Canon is better than Nikon, or that Canon is better than the 3rd party lenses?

hey new to this thread....i voted nikon only because i shoot nikon and i like the feel of the camera. i am no expert or professional but with all things that i like i do too much research =)

the 3 most important words of advice i can give anyone looking to buy a dslr:

1. go and pick one up at the store so you can feel it in your hands. now, almost all dslr (nikon and canon) are on the same playing field. image quality is so good now it is so hard to tell the difference. so you need to be comfortable with what you have in your hand.

2. remember that lenses is where you will spending your money. glass is always a better investment than bodies. get a good dslr to start and invest in good glass. dslr technology changes a lot faster than lens technology.

3. what ever camera you get, please read the owners manual. there is more in the manual than just how the camera works. there are great pointers on taking better shots.

i shoot with a nikon D200, 17-35 F2.8, 50mm F1.4, 28-70 F2.8. i bought all the glass used and with nikon lens prices always going up. i paid less for all three lenses used than i what the 17-35 F2.8 cost new now. the 17-35 is $1800 now.

here are some shots...nothing super fantastic but i have fun doing it.

definitely awesome shots for both canon and nikon. i love the pic quality in both with the "pop" I'm still working on getting that into my shots.

i've heard to get adobe lightshop 4, so i can get the vivid color contrast.

There is Photoshop Lightroom 2, and LR 3 is in beta. LR 3 will probably out later this year. LR is for managing and quick batch editing of a lot of photos.

Lightroom is different from Photoshop. PS has a lot more tools for editing and manipulation. PS CS5 is on the horizon.

would Lightroom be a good program to watermark a batch or whole folder ?
I want something thats easy to use, so I can watermark a folder of pix when we go wheeling. Ive tried it with photshop and just cant figure it out, lol

yes. i do exactly that. lightroom is a great program for photo cataloging and post processing. LR3 beta version is out for free public testing now and i think it is good until the end of june. you can also add a plug in so it uploads directly to Picasa just like the Picasa app

CS5 is already out

It was announced/released on April 12, 2010, but is it available for purchase? Adobe.com says mid-May. Newegg has it on pre-order, set to ship on May 3, 2010. Amazon is pre-order as well, it won't ship until June 30. I originally thought it won't be until later this year for CS5's release because in the past it's usually 18 months for the new version from Adobe.

I'm looking at the suites for Windows. I didn't check to see if the individual programs are available or for other platforms.

I know some people who have it but they may have gotten early copies since they have some pull in the photography community. They also had copies of lenses like the Nikon VRII before it's public release.

Those lucky individuals with their connections.

Anxiously waiting for its release, so I don't have install and uninstall CS4 on my Win7 machine. Congrats on new glass.

woooo!! thats a pricey lens!!!

im jelly!

Congrats!! That's going to be fun, how much did that set you back?

About $1800.

Next I'll be getting the new Nikon 70-200 VRII paired with a 1.7x teleconverter. I'll need this by June for a graduation ceremony. Will also be getting Nikon's 105mm f/2.8 macro lens, and hopefully within the next few months they will have leaked some info about the release date on the D700 upgrade. I want the D700 but I am not about to spend that much money on a body just to have it upgraded a few months later. For now my D300 will do.

I also picked up a Nikon 35mm f/1.4 prime that I have been playing with.

Makes sense. I have CS4 so I wont be upgrading for a while. I use LightRoom for most of my editing anyways.
