Spark plugs and etceteras

After driving a few days on 5ish cylinders, puttering down the road with zero accel and a nice shudder at 55mph, I changed out the spark plugs, wires, pcv valve and other misc. First time doing plugs myself. Not too bad! As usual this forum came in very handy. Used OEM stuff: Denso plugs, Sumitomo wires, Toyota valve and grommet. Also threw in a new air filter, some new wiper blades (hallelujah no squeaks!) and OEM front sway bar bushings and brackets, one of which I had to get new. Replaced the Energy Suspension brackets which failed aka sheared off and aren't built as solid as the original 4R ones. With the new plugs it drives so much better and seems to have fixed the issue. Next purchase will be new shocks, I'm thinking.

That's what I'm thinking, but it is weird that they have not fixed it.

I'll be using my old Superflexes for now and figure out whether or not they will be the right fit. No point in buying new coils yet.

Post a pic of how much shock shaft will be exposed when all installed and on the ground please. I'm curious

I really need to do this – I'm just dreading trying to fit my Gorilla arms up into that black greasy mess.

I've never taken my 4runner to a mechanic for anything – but I'm almost tempted to pay some other sorry sap to do this one thing for me while I sit back and relax.

Holly crap dude, were you wrenching under that thing with only the bottle jack sitting on dirt?

TBH it wasnt to bad. i did about 90% of the job thru the wheel well. but i will say i was covered in old oil from the previous valve cover leeks. and had a few new cuts adn scratched

yup one bottle jack for most of the time then i put a second one on there

Bottle jack is seeing about ~900 lb's on one corner of the vehicle with 3 tires on the ground. Not the smartest idea in the world, but if the guy doesn't have tools (although I think I saw an impact tool) then it's not the absolute worst idea ever lol.

If it failed, he could still probably crawl out the other side safely. Collapsed height has to count for something :brushteeth:

i started with just one bottle jack but then i took my other one and added it closer to the front.

i need to buy a set of jack stands all i have is some small one for my civic

Sure. Shit happens. I don't walk out my door in a lightning storm barefoot carrying a lightning rod though. That's asking for shit to happen. There is a difference. In that post upthread there is a tire right there. Pretty easy to put that under the vehicle instead of nothing. lol

I'm working on redoing mine right now too. Waiting for the primer to dry a little more. I use a heat gun to speed up the process then let it air dry some too. I'll post once it's done today!
