02 Sport Hood on a 97 SR5

This weekend I installed and aligned a sport hood off of an 02 Limited.
Biggest pain in the a$$ to align them... if anyone has any hindsight hints for anyone else doing it.
I set it on and the driver side on the hinge was shallow, the passenger front was high and tight to
the fender, fender lines were all off, and the latch was making the hood push to the right.
Well, after sweating in the sun for awhile on dad's day with my dad helping me and two beers later,
we got it as close to right as we could. The hinge bolts and little sleeves on them that stop them from
moving around in the hinge holes, but there isn't enough room with the sleeves to align it without
moving the fenders around. So, I found washers that fit right over the sleeve, from some 1970s gm
brake parts sitting around for 30 years waiting for a use, snugged up the bolts, moved the latch all
the way to the driver's side as possible, pushed, tugged, twisted. And Viola!! A nearly perfectly aligned
hood without touching the fenders!!

Dropped it off at my trusted mechanic to do both rear axle seals, bearings and such. Have all OEM parts for them, plus the print out for all the measurements and explained the difference in the seal model numbers. He's honest enough to say that he's willing to bet that nowhere in his system would it have that updated info. He knows me enough to listen to when I bring info like that into his shop. When I watched him take notes regarding my wheel spacers (torque specs) I felt good he listens.

He was also grateful when I told him about Amayama.com and the money I saved.

Normally I would be in there looking over their shoulder bugging the hell out of them (they're used to it), but I had to also drop my kids Jeep off at the body shop to finish up a few things left over from the accident. But I'll be in there for the last couple of hours of the work. Tomorrow I'll do the rear brakes (never did drums before), and I'm already not happy with what I had to purchase. Some crappy brand from CARQUEST that didn't even cost $20 for both sides. IF they fit, I'm sure they'll throw dust everywhere. But they'll get me on the road again for now until I can get better ones from Amazon or elsewhere.

Did you wire the lights up to their own switch?

No I just did it to my fuse box from the big 3 where it's on when the ignition is on. Soon I'll wire it up to the parking lights but I didn't have enough wire.

I just made my mechanics day.... I first axle (ABS gear) broke their 20 ton press!!!!! They've been fighting to get it off for a while and trying everything they can think of (except cutting it off). Stuck it in one last time and put some beef on it..... busted their press. They have it next door at the machine shop to see if they can fix it (of course it has to be level when they're done). If not, he'll have to borrow one from another shop to finish the job.

Won't be getting my truck back tonight, I'm sure.

Awesome, thank you! I have one actually lol.. well my work does, I work in a salvage yard selling used parts in WI. Random I have one, but I really like how it looks in the dash I'll be doing this I believe

Very nice! I hope that you can get it for a very reasonable price. I agree, it looks awesome. I wonder how many watts RMS the head unit is. Let us know if the existing wire harness works for the FJammer head unit.

Let it idle for about 15 min with radiator cap off. Then idle with Heater on full blast for 15 min. Then back to just idling for 15 min. The level in the radiator should drop as bubbles surface out the cap

Drove to Sonic with my GF. Met a random dude with an FJ and bs'd for an hour about my build and things he wants, turned him toward some brands over others he mentioned.

Out of everything I've ever built, cars, quads, trucks, gotten more compliments, conversations and people thumbs up (or flipping me off maybe) in this 4runner. Explains why they sell for so much $$ up here in WA haha.

sounds like something would happen to me... also try squeezing the upper hose slowly. Helps get rid of the air bubbles

Try popping the cap and running it for a little bit (when its cold), I've had to do it to bleed air out before.

You can put a funnel in the radiator neck while burping the cooling system to avoid spillage.
