Finally got around to changing out my tie rod outers and lower ball joints last night. All that's left before winter now is an alignment. A friend has access to alignment equipment so hopefully we can get in there and get it done on the weekend.

That must have been a scary ride!!! I've had a blowout on the highway.... but this.... doesn't come close!

How much did you have to replace? tire, LCA, UBJ, shock, caliper/brake line, rotor, sway bar/bushings, OTRE, steering rack?

Pulled the badges to repaint. Hate that flaky gold on the emblems.

Btw. The 4runner emblem in the license plate bezel. How do you get it off. There is definitely a screw or peg or something behind it.

I used fishing line for all of them. Well switched to high strength thread but same thing. But the 4RUNNER one seemed like it had some screws behind it.

So anyone whose had it off got a clarification?

Added lights and modified my grille. I am still trying to add mesh to surround the lights but I am happy so far.

In the future I plan to modify the bottom valence and throw some lights in there too. I will probably upgrade my existing lights first seeing as they were just an autozone pair I had laying around.

heat it up first with a blow dryer or heat gun then just work it out carefully with the thread. There are a couple pegs that lock it in. Once you get that glue warm, it should come right off

cv boots were bad, decided to change out the entire axles and keep the old as trail spares, new lower tie rod and new sway bar end links, and a alignment,

cut some more off the exhaust so it pointed down more..

I took the 4Runner off the tarmac and hit the dirt and got some serious articulation.

I came out pretty lucky and only had to replace the ball joints, break line, tire and re-pack my cv with fresh grease. When the tire folded up under the body, the tie-rods held on and the wheel wedged its self up against my slider. Had the slider not been there I would be repairing some serious sheetmetal!

OOOhhh yeah!!! Got me a new set of El Dorado blue wall tires

:jk: I'll get a photo of the clean tires a bit later. BTW, just noticed the "road rash" which was caused by the shop installing the tires. Guess I'll add repainting the wheels to my to-do list for this weekend.

Also got some Monroe shocks for the rear since the fronts were replaced two weeks ago. Ride quality is great. Nice and stiff on the highway yet absorbs the bumps nicely in city driving. Also, the stance of the truck has returned to it's factory height, maybe even a bit taller. Found that the previous shocks had been installed since new in 2000 so that's 164k miles on one set of shocks!!!

Next stop, timing belt, oil and filter change, radiator flush and a couple of other things in the following weeks.
