My First Mod!

Last year, I got inspired by this forum and decided to clean my MAF and throttle body, and replace my PCV valve/grommet. Went without issue, neither was particularly dirty, though not pristine, but I remember wondering where the TB crap came from in the first place.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. In a forum thread here, I saw something mentioned called a "oil catch can'. I'd never heard of it, so I watched a few YouTube videos and then realized (duh!) that all the black gunk I'd seen in the throttle body was coming from the recirculated fumes pulled back into the engine via the PCV valve. Eureka!

This led me to ebay where I forked out $15 for my first official 4Runner mod: a red oil catch can.

I hunted around for a spot to mount it, and settled on the side of the air filter box. Drilled two holes and positioned the catch can to be a little lower than the PCV valve, so any oil would run downhill to be captured. To keep the oil can from rattling in its bracket, I threaded a section of old bicycle innertube around the bracket and tighted it up.

Drove it 5 miles today, and the 4Runner didn't catch fire -- so I think I'm good to go.

Installed a Uniden CB yesterday in the ash tray location. I need to put a 90 degree adapter for the coax because it sticks out too far the way it is. Also mounted a 4' fire stick on the side of the bumper on the drivers side with the heavy duty spring. I need to figure out what to do about it whipping around and hitting the side of the tail light when on the trails (finally got it out on the trails today!). Maybe either remove the spring or put a ball on it where it's hitting and bungee it to the roof rack to keep it from swaying too much. Not sure yet. Also need to actually mount my hi lift somewhere. I currently have it hanging from the rear head rests and I could hear it hitting the side trim panels all day. Other than that it performed beautifully. What a difference the elocker makes over my last runner with open diffs!

No, it's a lot lighter on the 99+. You need to swap both side panels and the top and bottom trim pieces at the tailgate opening.

I also bought a Samsung Tab A 8.0 to run Gaia on. I'm going to get another Ram mount and attach it to a Panavise.

I did the mistake of just taking the passenger panel and once i got home realized they were a different color. :yell: so now I'm stuck with the passenger and who knows when ill have time to make my way to the pick your part and pull the rest of the panels, that's if i even them.

I’ll figure something out for mirrors, won’t have speaker mounts though. Going to pull the wiring harness out of my extra door and cut it down so I can still control the rear door locks and windows. Should be able to pickup some tube today and get th drivers side squared away. still waiting for latches. Can’t wait to have these done and on.

Not today, but yesterday got back to my truck after being 2500 miles away and gave her a wash and an oil change. Can't wait to get her in the garage again at the end of July!!

Scored an OEM Bug Deflector off of CL for $20. Also my wife and I took her out in the sand for the first time at Cape Hatteras Nat’l Seashore. It was amazing, and the truck did great!

Just some experience from my oil catch can.
1. It works! I drain mine every oil change. Not usually much in there. Maybe an ounce or two. But to think that would be entering the TB without it.
2. The tube on the side that is suppose to show you the "level" may leak, a lot. I found mine to be leaking, dripping a little oil, but mostly spraying it all over the area I have mine mounted. I'd suggest plugging them, but maybe yours in built better than mine.

Re installed my stock roof rack cross bars then mounted my basket to that. Working on a set up to mount a canoe to. Going to send the basket off to powder coat soon.
