Haha, I've been putting off getting one for so long even though I had the insert for the last 2 years. A bracket on my SC ended up piercing my stock hood, so I felt it was time. Only $90 for the hood. :bigok:

Getting ready for Winter
Yesterday I pulled out the Winter tires/rims in preparation for mounting. Can't cross the "Highway Thru Hell" /Coquihalla Summit without Winter rated tires after October 1st! As we had a sunny weekend, I decided to paint my hitch, and today, painted my rear end.

This Spring when I did my engine replacement, I bought a compressor and some accessories, one if which was a 90* grinder/sander. I bought a bunch of Roloc pads ---- they're really great at removing rust, and saves a ton of elbow grease! It took me 20min to completely buff the hitch and 45min to buff the rear end! My truck was undercoated new --- the only parts not done were the rear end and hitch--- the only items with some creeping surface rust. They're done now!

This trail is pretty tough. Its rated a black diamond and I would consider strong-blue (summer) to double black when WET but that is just my opinion.
It was a great trip though and I made it out with any body damage!

Took my almost 6 year old daughter out Wheeling for the first time. She had a blast! Broke a front sway bar end link. Looks like it is time for it to go into the pile of "weight reduction" parts soon. Should give me a little more flex. Also got to stand it on the back bumper a bit. Need to get the hitch removed as well.

Answering the title of the thread: Nothing good
Got platinum plugs and NGK wires. Had no idea when previous owner did plugs or if he cheaped out, so I spent today installing them. Only to find out that A) he used the same plugs I bought - the $10/pop ones, and B) they didn't look that bad. But I continued.
The coil pack bolt on cyl #5 broke before it even started to get significantly tight. Luckily it left a piece sticking up so I could unscrew it with needle nose pliers. Otherwise, that would have been a freaking disaster. Coincidentally, a license plate bolt was the same fine threading and long enough to do the job temporarily.
Changed the oil and filter, but couldn't remember why I had always removed the skid in the past - hungover morning. "I have a fumoto drain valve on there now, no sense in removing that darn skid!" :biggrin1: Oil filter filled the skid plate. Oh yeah, that's why I always removed it in the past.
Did the deck plate mod, for no real reason aside from that I had the deck plate. Used a dremel and key saw to cut a rough circle - it was almost perfect, just a little tight. I monkey fisted the female part of the deck plate in and siliconed it good. Blew out the box with my lungs to get a bunch of dust/shavings out, and put it back in. Now the screw in part of the deck plate won't go in because of my monkey fisting :banana: Also noticed the gasket to intake manifold is split, so I electrical taped that until I can find a replacement. Great.
Lastly, I started the 4runner forgetting to put the air filter back in, so any remaining plastic dust and pieces just got sucked in to my motor. Feel like an absolute idiot, spent the better part of the day accomplishing nothing positive.

This is my first post in the 3rd gen section of t4r. Sold my 4th gen about 10 months ago and bought a 3rd gen about 6 weeks ago and started to get things together this past weekend.

Did an engine decarb and added a bottle of valvoline injector cleaner to the gas tank, not the kind you get at autozone. You can only get this if you work at a shop and it is much better than the parts store type. I still will do a real injector flush here soon. Just doing what i can when i get time at work or time on a day off. Next is those energy suspension control arm bushings which are going to be fun:redbrick:

I hate it when that happens but it is pretry common on 4runners and tacoms. Was one of the first things i checked on my runner when i bought it.
Blacked out my tail lights!
What did you use? I have used RC car paint in the past with a clear in it. I need to get mine done it looks weird with black badges but no lights

cleaned the MAF and throttle body on my 4runner today, after it started throwing a CEL for 2nd cylinder misfire. The CEL hasn't come back yet and it feels like a completely different car. Best $15 I've spent in a while.

Had to add more power steering fluid. Having to add fluid about every two weeks or pump starts squeaking and I can feel it in the steering wheel. Have searched all over for a leak and cant find anything. Anyone have suggestion?

I would imagine it is leaking somewhere along the steering rack given its age. Take a look underneath and look close around both inner tie rods. If it is, time for a replacement.
