What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

changed out the starter contacts, wow what a pain that was. definitely needed them though, the right side of the middle one was so thin it flaked off and the others were corroded pretty bad:



new ones installed:



was happy to see there was a Toyota starter in there, truck's got 243k miles on it, wonder if the contacts were the originals...

Really diggin' this forum, been lurkin' for quite a while now but it is time to jump in.
I've got a 99 4Runner SR5, bought it new. Well it's time to start fixin' it or sell it. Had a 88 4Runner bought new before this one, sold it, but man I love this one, and can't stand the look of the new ones so I'm gunna start makin it what I always wanted anyway.
Starting simple to make it looking sweet again, then going with Toytec lift, Cooper 285-75-R16 tires, Shrockworks front bumper etc.............

What I did today/this week...........
Key wouldn't come out of the ignition, did a search(here) and found what was causing it and fixed it.
Took off front grill repainted black, did the same with the hood scoop. (sand, primed, paint, and clear coated. Both showed major signs of U/V damage. Today I did the same with the roof rack. The license plate panel is next. Today I also tried to fix the auto antenna but the part(mast) I ordered off ebay didn't fit, so that's on hold till I get another one ordered.
Have a tranny cooler coming in any day now, so that will probably be next.

Both. Used diff armor as a rust repair. And it's not an odd place at all for rust, in fact it's very common on the 3rd gen.

E locker conversion? Screen door repair? That is a lot of hose you have back there for that compressor.

E Locker - I wish. That hose reaches the middle of the street in front of my buddies garage.

You are going to use that stepladder to climb on top of the fridge.

You will then jump off of the fridge and through your now hollow axle and land in the tub of oil.

To celebrate the occasion you will grab a scooter from the corner and do a victory lap around the garage which will not end well when you crash into the open drawer on your tool chest.

You will now be laying in the yard, delirious, partially naked and covered in gear oil - which smells really bad.

Started wiring up my GM underhood light. Will try to finish that tomorrow and start on figuring out where oh where and how I want to mount my air compressor. Cargo area behind left panel is the current plan, tank underneath.

Took it to Toyota service to have the starter contacts replaced. Yeah, I've done the job before, but on my FJ62 and it was easier to access.

And, I was younger and more patient then. I got other things to do than try to wrestle that thing.

That top stand off where the brake lines split to the wheel cylinders catches an awful lot of bullshit and just holds it up there. Rusted thru the rear cover right there.

Saw pics of the compressor and the underhood light on your YT thread. I thought you'd have one of those completed by now! lol. Meant to tell you that I was able to get 15 qts from an Auto Zone here in Springfield when they were on sell for $1/qt. Thanks for the tip. Did you get your gift card?

Last weekend I installed a 4Crawler 2" lift with the help of my nephew. 4 hours well spent. A coworker joined us and relocated my tow hitch to match the lift. All went well til we got home and my wife reminded me that I forgot to remove the spare! DOH!! Stared at it the whole time we were lifting, wrenching and welding and it never crossed my mind! Geez...

Bright and early mañana the 5100's go in all 'round, followed by the 265/75 Coop AT3's and an alignment.

Ha, it's been too cold! I couldn't get a good solder today, either, urgh! Maybe tomorrow, s'posed to be near 60!
Cool on the oil. I just passed the tip on from here on t4r, glad you were able to take advantage. I did get my gift card as promised.

With those sipes, that Cooper looks like it'd be a nice, tractiony tire.

Getting that spare down is going to be.....amusing....
I think we do things like that to ourselves to stave off the boredom factor.

Came off a '91 Fj80.

Paint is a little rough and they are way tall (5" rear lift?). Super flexy but apparently don't hold loads very well (low spring rate)...Still don't know if I'll try and use them but couldn't just let them get crushed. I'll entertain PM offers if anyone really wants them. In the meantime they will be hanging out with my 891's until I finish fixing my axle seals and start my suspension re-do.

I also picked up 2 cans of plastidip to try my hand at dipping my bumper to cover my peeling chrome, I figure worst case I'm out $10 and I just peel it off..

put in the WeatherTech front and rear floor pan liners, installed one of three toyota OEM wiper blades to replace the ill-fitting after market ones, programmed the new remote fob (and the old one). that's about it. been cleaning up around the house, mostly...

Just some cleanup things..
Full wash and vacuum of everything.
Before I did that though, I was tired of my flashlight being loose and rolling around in the back, so I mounted the clips and stuck it to the wall underneath the cover. I dig it.
