What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I got jealous of the '99+ dual 12v outlets so I installed my own set

I mounted them to the bottom of the ash tray and put some disconnects behind it so I can still take my ash tray out. Hooked directly to the battery.

Also, the USB hooked up on the stock 12v is to my dash cam.

Replaced all the heater hoses at the back of the motor. Sprung a huge leak the previous owner had fixed with BARS...nothing but a new hose was going to fix it this time. Why...oh why...just fix it correctly....so I replaced them all. Rock Auto purchase for the first time..yeah it was ok...but super slow and shipping cots. Sticking with Summit Racing!

What did you use for a dash cam? That is something I've been thinking about given all the fine drivers here in the Phoenix AZ area

Timing belt & water pump kit, new belts, valve cover gasket, radiator with new hoses and a tie rod. Drives like new...180,000. :boom:

I haven't looked too hard at it yet, but how did you remove the ash tray?

Ashtray just slides out like any typical dashboard ashtray, then there are 2 phillips screws holding the ashtray rack.

When I bought my 4R, the PO had installed a remote start/lock system, but I didn't know it was in there and I didn't receive any remotes for that system. I found the system while I was trying to track down the source of a mystery antenna that was above the driver's sun visor. I tracked down the system online. It was questionable whether or not I could get a replacement remote. A whole new system could be had for the price of a replacement remote.

I bought a Avital 4103LX on Amazon. It turns out the original system and the new system were made by the same company and they still used pretty much the same color coding for the wiring. I was able to install the new system as I tore out the old. Here's a pic in the heat of the battle!

I have it all wired, I just have to tidy it all up and do a little programming.

So I replaced my valve cover gaskets, changed the oil, got everything put back together. My question is what would make my temperature gauge stop working? Any help ??

[MENTION=120317]Bing[/MENTION], did you have to unplug the temp sending unit when you replaced your valve covers? Make sure it is plugged back in, properly. Also, look for a broken wire coming from the sensor.

I got it from Walmart last year around Christmas season for $40. It's a 1080p with a micro SD card and night vision. I love it; so far I've only caught cops running red lights or people cutting me off, but it was a great investment.
You never know when you'll need video evidence.

Sport Grille

Not technically today, but over the last week or so I've started the simple stuff to remove some of the soccer mom look:

-Plastidipped the gold rear badges, also dipped the front emblem off the 4Runner to be put back on today

-Peeled the ugly gold pinstripes. A hairdryer and a plastic putty knife made quick work of that. Now I just need to order an eraser wheel to get rid of the adhesive because Goo-Gone is not doing the trick. Even with the adhesive there, looks better than the gold did!

-Removed the running boards

-Removed the front seats and center console to deep clean, as the PO clearly had a dog ride regularly and was a smoker. While I had the seats out and all the side panels removed for cleaning, I unbolted the seat bottoms and swapped them. Now my driver side has no tear and is less worn out, and the big seam tear is somewhat hidden/protected on the passenger seat on the console side! I took a couple quick pictures that I will post later to show how easy that was. When searching after I first bought it, I saw a lot of back and forth on whether you could swap the entire bottom, or if you had to cut the hog rings and swap only the cover. Visual proof might help someone down the road see that it is actually as simple as 4 bolts on each side. :thumb:
