I prevented some little hispanic POS from stealing my catalytic convertor.

I'm sitting in my house this afternoon, when I hear a rattling metal sound. A split second later my alarm starts going off. I look out and see this little POS getting out from under my 4Runner in a hurry. I run down the stairs, out the door and chase after him. By this time he's in a white, late 90's Subaru Impreza, and driving away.

I'm running after him, while yelling every profanity I can at this little coward, in the hopes he'll stop, and I can get my hands on him.

Of course being the little, thieving, cowardly POS he is, he didn't stop.

I checked and he didn't get any further than making some light scratch marks on the exhaust pipe, with his sawzall.

As mad as I was/am, it's probably a good thing I didn't get ahold of the little POS.



So,,, does anyone have some good suggestions on how to protect the Cat from thieving scum? I could make a skidplate of some sort, but does anyone sell something that I can buy, and save the trouble of fabricating something?

Finally got around to doing the O gasket mod and some much needed cleaning. As some suggested on here, instead of installing the TRD throttle body gasket, which is a thick paper, I just cut the original "D" gasket (which is metal) to a full "O" using a combination of a weak, beginner rotary tool and some scissors. Some grime actually created a "template" for me to follow which made it easy to cut and get a nearly perfect circle:thumb: lol.

Figured while the throttle body was off I should clean it, as I had yet to do it since buying the 4r few years ago. I'd say it was time! The backside (end facing the engine) was much dirtier than the front (air filter side), although I spent a while really trying to get as much grime as I could. I followed JA's walkthrough and it was really easy.

And since I just put a new air filter in last week, I cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor as well. Using CRC MAF cleaner, I again followed JA's maf cleaning writeup. I tried to brighten/enhance the bottom left picture so you can see the two wires down inside the sensor that need to be sprayed with cleaner along with the amber-beaded wire that is more visible. There were quite a few mentions in the forums about people stripping the small screws that attach the MAF to the air intake, so I was prepared to get surgical, but luckily my screws came right out, with one of them even already being replaced with a flat-head screw.

Topped off the radiator, wiper fluid and removed a few wayward leaves, closed the hood and called it a day. Engine fired right up and sounds good! Here's hoping my hp and mpg go waaaay up!

So the "O-mod" is not just for supercharged motors?

Scangauge 2

bought a scangauge 2 and tested it out with the new b&m 70268 cooler. Did some fast acceleration and drove in 4 high and 4lo for a while and the temp never got over 172. Still haven't gotten to changing out the fuel line I used for the install instead of transmission hose. But im convinced I'll be okay with the fuel line (cause I don't want to redo it). Plus I swear I saw that someone else had used fuel line instead of transmission hose...Maybe I dreamed it though.

It is? huh... Do you know why?

Of course after I realized it, when I drove the truck after that, I swear I could tell it was lopsided.

The fuel tank, battery and driver are all on that side. Do some research in the various threads.

As much as I like the idea in theory, I don't want to spend years in prison for unjustifiably maiming some worthless POS.

I have several rifles, and handguns. There was no time to grab them if I wanted to get a good look at and possibly catch the POS. As it was, I gave a good description of the car and the POS to the Police.

Now if I could have gotten ahold of the little POS, and if he had tried to fight my detaining him, then I'd have no problem defending myself.

FINALLY, Installed my Sonoran Steel Rear Links and Trac Bars.

Anyone know if the sonoran rear links are supposed to have grease zerks? there are holes on the where the bushings are.

I know he wasn't from my immediate neighborhood. I know my neighbors. None of them are thieving little bastards.

The Cop said the car I saw fit the description of a car that had been stolen within the previous two hours, on the other side of the valley (approx. 20 miles away).

That's an interesting deterrent you made. I'll have to give this some thought. Thanks for the idea.

If anyone else has an example of what they've done to prevent their Cat from being stolen, I'm all ears.

Living in the country, I use my light bar a lot; unfortunately, it creates a lot of glare. The Crawlorado blackout hood helped, but the dashmat also took away the remaining glare.




Now that I'm running 295/70/17s, I took a look at the spare, which resembled a 15 inch donut. Given my lift/tire combination, it served no purpose, so it was removed. Now to figure out what to do for a spare.

Cool! Looks like a pretty simple setup. That's what I would like, plus paint the reflectors black. Do you have any pics of night and the cutoff line? Also what parts did you get?

Got my Icon rear shocks put back on today... That's about it. Started theory crafting how to mount up my new Rally Armor mudflaps I got from [MENTION=83023]THatfield[/MENTION] in the classifieds. Thinking I'll use the factory bolts locations for the mudguards/running boards in the front, but in the rear probably drill some holes in my bumper (yikes).

Looking fwd to seeing what you come up with. I also have the sr5 flares and a cbi, been agonizing over this for some time now. Good luck!

Thanks for that. I haven't decided what to do yet. Maybe I'll just end up fabricating a skidplate for the area.

Any other ideas are welcome.
