Both (roof rack, sliders, FB/winch, full skids 285s)...necessary is a matter of debate/preference, I have a 5spd and am supercharged...I will report back when installed if it was worth it.

Thank you sir. I'm running 265/75's being mostly stock minus a lift and rear tube bumper and just pulled the trigger on some 285/75's. I've been pretty nervous about throwing a bigger tire on there because I don't want to feel under geared. Although I don't have plans on going to a 35, I feel like I'll want 4.88's after the addition of that much weight with 285's, especially if she continues to be my DD. Looking forward to hearing your response.

My 4Runner didn't come with a factory tow hitch. If I wanted to install one on, would I need to drill holes? Or are there pre-drilled holes already on the frame?

I feel horribly undergeared. I'm up on 305/70-16's (32.8's) With under armor, bumper and winch, the truck seriously doesn't like highways with grades. If I keep it under 70mph, I get decent MPG (15.5-16.1). Over 70mph, I can watch the gas gauge move faster than the odometer :faint2:
AFAIK: They are all "pre-drilled", aka: the frames have holes stamped out for them.

Are you running 4.10's or 4.30's? I'm stuck with 4.10's but with living on a coastal flat, I think I should do okay for the next year or two (until I've had enough and head down to ECGS). By then, I'll hopefully be fully armored and mostly done with building this so it'll be a good time to go ahead and get them.

The stock hitches use four bolts on each side. Two of them are pre-threaded (nuts are tack-welded on the inside) and two are just holes, and you need a funky nut carrier strap that comes with the hitch for the other two or get creative. All eight holes should be there. Beware, the threaded holes are an unusual fine pitch not easily located.
Any good reason you didn't just climb under there and look?

Don't feel alone in the "under-geared" group. Mine is stock with 4.10's but with both, increased tire size and weight, and the additional weight in the armor deeper gears (4.88 or 5.29) are moving higher on my list of things to do. It might be a winter project. I'm looking forward to the additional torque.

I feel like most people are in the "under-geared club" haha. I think getting 4.88's will be on my list to do for next winter, hopefully I'll be fully armored by then. I think 4.88's are all I need to the driving I do and to help me keep away from 35's. If you do make your gears a winter project, looking forward to hearing how they treat you and how the power gain is!

My Check Engine Light, VSC TRAC, VSC TRAC CTRL lights went out on their own after being on for 3 weeks with the P0420 code. That's a good thing. Right? lol...
