I used to care about doing my own maintenance. Then I got an adult job making adult money. Now I only do it if I want to. Find a good mechanics shop around your house. I'll gladly pay an extra $10 or so and take a nap or drink coffee while they change my oil. Saves me the hassle of storing and disposing and all of that running around. Only time these days I'll do regular maintenance is if they charge some stupid amount to do it. Like $150 for a trans drain and refill. That's ludicrous.

My mechanic charges me $21 to change the oil & $10 to rotate the tires. Why would I go through the hassle of doing it myself? And he greases all of my zerks free w/ the oil change. arty:

I'm the same way 20-30 for a oil change why the hell would I do it myself. At that price it's not worth the hassle.

You know I totally agree if you have someone you trust... However I have had some scary things almost go down on my 4Runner.... After getting my oil changed this one time, a couple weeks later I was just poking around and the oil drain plug was so loose it almost fell into my hand as I was able to hand tighten it....I don't even want to imagine if I was driving down the road and oil was unknowingly draining while driving ....

20-30$ for an oil change without the hassle

Installed a set of SR5 fender flares a buddy of mine scoped out at a junkyard. Went and pulled a complete set and another partial set for all of $30.

Also ordered new clutch master and slave cylinder to remedy my soft clutch pedal I've been contending with since I bought the truck....

Fixed the no grill, had an extra fiberglass headlight/grill assembly left over from My daughters truck. So chop chop. Not too bad..
AEM wideband boost/AFR gauge done, now I can get the FI/C 6 install when I get more free time..
And got an extra set of 32s on it.

Popped a new air filter in, installed LED parking light bulbs, cleaned engine bay, corrected tire pressure...oh yea, sat at the DMV for 4 hours and got it registered and ready to rock through a New England winter :ak472:

Timing belt, wp, serpentine belts and the associated stuff on Sunday.

Tube bumpers and rock sliders yesterday.

Sport hood and grill color matched today, and bilstein 5100s, led light bar, 285s.

Oh I agree, my mechanic is old school & honest. I've been going to him for 8 years now since I moved into my house. He's a little younger than me in his late 30's but he was trained by his Father & Uncle who were lifelong mechanics. He was working in his Fathers shop at 14. He also builds & races buggies/Jeeps off road. He rebuilt my 3rz 12,000 miles ago & it's still running great.

I've heard horror stories about kids working at Jiffy Lube or some place similar fvckin' up people's cars.

Replaced the oil in the transmission with some fresh MT-90. The fluid that was previously in there was brown and smelled burnt. Glad I changed that. I also changed the rear differential oil and fill plug only to find out that my front pinion seal is leaking.

On the upside, I don't need to coat the underside of my truck for winter now.

picked this up today. Was just a few miles off of my route home for thanksgiving. Now to rebuild the nose cone, track down/make some missing brackets & order the 7th injector kit. Thanks for posting!
