Got new spacers and bearing pressed on the right rear axle and yes, with appropriate spaces. The axle is almost scary easy to get off and on the truck.

Drove it to the dealership so the wife could test drive a trail premium, which I'm hoping she decides to get, then we drove a highlander and I didn't like it at all, but she does as it has the blu Ray player and automatic lift gate. She asked about resell value of the Toyota's, and the sales lady looked at mine and said she could get an easy 8-10k out of my 97 runner. Boy my wife's eyes lit up and said for that piece crap...wtf. Said I should just trade mine in, instead of her honda Odyssey. I don't think so woman.

Well drove it back to the dealer to sign the final paperwork for my wife's new ride.

Yea that's the plan. My oldest son will be turning 15-16 around then and will get the 97 passed on to him. Hope the new one lasts as long as my current one.

Swapped the corner light bulbs with these to make up for the housings being blacked out. Nice and bright.

Then drove it around a bunch to shake down the new headlights and fusebox. No issues yet, hopefully none before holiday travels.

Be prepared for the drain plug to be stripped. Mine stripped out with the proper sized socket, heat and a breaker bar. Just buy yourself a $6 harbor freight pump to siphon out the fluid and then re-fill from the fill plug.

Pain in the ass, but from what I heard at the dealership, it's pretty common. They wanted $200 to remove my stripped plug after telling me they "replace them all the time" at the parts counter.:shocked:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure I drop by Harbor Freight before I start. There isn't a speck of rust on mine, but you never know.

It doesn't hurt to spray penetrating oil (PB blaster) on it before you start also.

What type of paint was used on the undercarriage? Did you do any prep on the rust first? I imagine that took quite some time.

I used some wire wheels and some sand paper. The prep took some time but nothing to bad. For the paint I used Eastwood rust encapsulator which is what you see in the pic. Tomorrow I will use their chassis paint for a top coat. So far I've been very happy with their products

Gotta love this weird northeast weather, it's about 60 here in NJ right now and supposed to hit 70 tomorrow.

Are they LC80 wheels in the background? I love those wheels and bought a nice set for my runner but i sold them when i realized spacers were needed.

I'm so glad the weather is this awesome. I thought I was going to have to do this project in the spring. It really is satisfying to see the rust gone. And yeah they are lc80 wheels, I love them but have been really looking at the FN wheels that look like the trd pro wheels.

Installed my Full OME suspension (881/890; no spacer) that I got from the guys at Toytec. It took approximately 5 hours for my buddy and I to install the lift and do the 1" differential drop.

Also replaced the Lower Ball Joints with some OEM ball joints while we had the front apart

Next up, TIRES! Pretty much decided on Cooper ST Maxx in 265/75r16.

Replaced what may have been original plug wires into my '99 with 184k. Started better and seems to have a touch more pep. Will know if it is really making a diff at the next fuel mileage check.

The blue NGKs look awesome too. Best $26 I've spent in a while...
