Made a custom cell phone holder!

Back story: The black bracket is actually off of a bike, I believe it was for a light? I can't quite remember the original function, but my friend was tossing the bike away so I saved this little bracket because it fit perfectly as a rear antenna mount for a CB. So, its been sitting in my parts drawer for 2 years awaiting me to finally get a CB.
For a phone mount I was using a standard suction cup mount that I bought for $7 at Ross. Worked great except it would fall off if was really cold out or really hot (we get both here in N. AZ). It would also fall off when I hit a dirt road from the shaking.
So this weekend, of course it falls off when I'm heading to camp and I get pissed. No more stupid suction cup mount I'm going to hard mount this damn thing. So I am looking around all over for a nice clean spot to mount. I didn't want to spend any more money on a stupid mount. Couldn't find a place I liked. So I go inside and google "phone mounts for 4runner" and really like the idea of using the oh shit handle. I think, custom bracket? Hit the hardware store? Well I know I want it black, and I do not feel like painting right now. BAM! The little black piece I've been saving for so long!
After a few bends, using hardware from the old mount, and quick trip to the hardware store I now have a clean, perfect location, hard mounted phone.

I drove mine to the dealer, sat for 3+ hours and forked over $200 while they diagnosed and repaired a broken/corroded wire related to the ABS/Brake/ VSC? traction control lights.
Hate paying anybody to repair anything but, all considered, I would have never gotten to this as the problem.
To ease my pain I came home and worked on roof rack version II.

What was wrong with your old throttle body? Also, what size starter did you remove (1.8 or 1.4kw) and which way did you get it out (side or bottom)?

I messed it up cleaning it not long after I got it. Kept getting two lights, VCS track and something else. It also had weird lag in the throttle. Bought one off another member.

Don't know what size came off or went on. I just bought the one O'Reilly's had LOL

I got it out the side. Removed the front passenger wheel, removed the teams dip stick and moved the break line bracket out of the way. Had to use a REALLY long extension to get to the bolts. Was a bit of a PITA but not too bad.

Ah yeah that makes sense with the throttle body. Seems any time I hear of them being replaced is when someone messed them up by accident. That's why I was curious if yours had actually failed on its own.

As for the starter, I'm going to replace my contacts soon, so I've been trying to determine why some people seem to have no prob getting them out of the truck when others seem to find it nearly impossible and just rebuild it inside the truck. I think it depends on whether you have the smaller 1.4kw or the larger 1.8kw starter.

Just thought I would ask to see if you were able to get a 1.8 out and which way.

I'm assuming you returned your OEM one for the core refund?

Yeah the throttle body failure was definitely operator error.
The new starter was a bit smaller than the one that came out and went in a lot easier than the old one came out. It took a bit of twisting and turning to get it out.
I started to just replace the contacts, as that was my problem, but I'd be putting a 15 yr old starter back into my 4Runner. It was worth the peace of mind to pony up for the new starter.
As far as replacing the contacts with out actually taking the starter out, I can see how that would be very frustrating hahaha

I used my 4Runner to scavenge the neighborhoods around me after the floods in Houston for furniture/items that were tossed but still in usable condition.

Found a full dining room set (table and 4 chairs), bedside table, and a chest of drawers.

Also found $300-$400 in hand tools in a water-filled toolbox. (because hand tools can't get wet, right?)

Seriously, I could never build a permanent storage shelf in the back of my T4R like some of you guys. The T4R can hold A LOT with the rear seats down.

First time welding I took on the 1st gen roll bar. I made it a little more challenging by removing the lower seat belt bracket and sectioning out the whole left behind the bracket. Then cut the plates off to get the right angle to have them lay flat on the wheel wells. More cuts means more welding practice. I'm so pumped on how it came out.

I would trust that 14 old starter over a Mexico reman from O'Reillys.

Welcome to the roll bar club!

Got my sliders mounted on the drivers side last night and finished the bracing for the drivers side of the bumper. All I've got left is the passenger side and I can finally get it going. Hopefully getting the tires mounted tomorrow.

Just installed the redesigned spc upper ball joints. The one was installed about a year and had some play. The oil in boot was pretty much water. Now the have a grease zurk.

On my way to alignment shop that does lifted vehicles. Pricey but hope the can tune it right.

Finished up my custom 3D printed switch that houses my garage door opener circuit board and momentary push button. [emoji41] might refinish the exterior for a little smoother appearance.

BTW can anyone point me in the right direction to find out if I can put tundra/sequoia front springs onto my stock front struts? For a slight lift

So I finally got around to plastic dipping my wheels and handles the other day, I was surprised how easy the plastic dip was. Pretty sweet looking!
