What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Yesterday I replaced my outer tie rod ends. This morning I am going to have my windshield tinted 50%, and this afternoon I am getting an alignment. After that I intend to replace my rear, passenger sway bar bracket that disappeared and wire up some LED strip lights for my roof top tent!

Big bag of upper and lower ball joints ordered today ! Pushing 310,000 miles don't know if ever been changed. There leaking but no movement. Better safe than sorry !!! Kind of scary w/ my kids and wife in 4runner !!!!

It looks really, really good. Unfortunately I've never photographed a window, so I have struck out so far trying to capture an image. I'll get it though! haha

Swaybar bracket replaced (thanks [MENTION=82154]GSPRunner[/MENTION] for letting me use yours for the weekend) and now I am off to my alignment appointment.

put my clear corners on finally...resprayed the front bumper black after cutting the front plastic valence...should be getting my ebay 1.25" wheel spacers tomorrow cant wait, 295/70/17s on black TEP wheels in the near future

I didn't change mine until after I came on the forum looking for answers to my knock sensor problem and I read all about the LBJ failures. That was around 309K! The general populace knows nothing about it or the milkshake. I parked my rig and changed out my radiator too since it was the original.

I would venture to guess that the average stock 3rd gen you see driving around today by "mom and pop" has the original LBJ's and radiator.

This forum is a wealth of information!

EDIT: If you compiled ALL of the "valid" information from this forum into one book it would put the Chilton's and Haynes manual to shame. It would be the equivalent of the PDR in the medical world. Just my humble opinion.

My first LBJ change was at 65,000kms........changed for the second time about a month ago at 250,000+kms, the set I just replaced showed no sign of excessive wear, leakage or any type of failure. I change it because I am a member of this forum, my contact at Toyota parts asked me why I was changing it if there was nothing wrong, lol. I agree with Rock Rat, it's not a commonly known failure out in the general populace.

Similarly, I feel like everyone lifts based on build threads even when they don't need it at all.

But again most failures are on lifted rigs.

Who said a lift is not needed!! Got to get rid of the soccer mom look some way.

The previous owner of my truck didn't believe in preventive maintence. Never did they replaced anything until it failed — completely. The LBJs were no exception. As you can imagine, complete failure of the passenger LBJ occured around 349,000 miles.

Fortunately for everyone, the failure occured while the PO was exiting a gas station. So speed was under 5 mph and damage was minimized by this.

In a sense I'm glad this happened, since had it not, the previous owner would not have felt the truck was a worthless pile of junk and just given it to me. One mans trash is now my treasure.

I think the LBJs are an issue with these trucks not because the LBJs are faulty — but rather the trucks are so solid that they outlast certain components like the LBJs that when they DO fail — they do so spectacularly.

I've got 50% on the windshield of my MK3 Supra. I did it on there to keep the UV rays off the interior, ceramic tint is amazing. You can't really tell it's there unless you are really looking for it, but driving at night you can notice a slight difference. I was trying to figure out the other day driving the Supra why I was having to squint so much and then I remembered the tint. I've thought about doing it on the 4Runner as well, but I'm not sure yet. You don't really notice the tint in the pictures below unless you know it's there. Good thing too because there isn't a state where tinting the windshield is legal hahaolice:

had some extra interior LED lights from my audi, so i replaced the center interior LED above the back seat, and the rear cargo area light. the front two map lights are going to be left with normal bulbs, the twist bases they have on them are a little tricky to find in LED form and i dont have any handy.

the LEDs im using are larger than the factory bulbs, but they draw so little power its not a worry, theyre just physically larger. took the mount off, and pressed each side of the metal snaps farther out, then bent the top lip of them back forward a bit to hold the LED more securely.
