What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

After a long discussion with son (who knows far more about mechanics than I do - runs a depot bay for an engineering battalion USARMY), he convinced me that my desire to rebuild the truck was more sentimental than practical.

So, since I still cannot post a new thread on this forum, if you are looking for a project vehicle in the Atlanta area, make me an offer. What I know:

• 
  ~280K

• 
  kid installed larger springs, never aligned, front tires are gone.

• 
  at least one blown head gasket (drained oil, 70/30 water/oil came out).

• 
  4WD and transmission were known to be good, but truck has not been run in two years.

• 
  Frame is SOLID - no rust at all. Truck was a daily commuter for original owner, we are 2nd owners.

• 
  front leather seats in rough shape (as you would expect).

It will be gone by the end of the month - sold or donated, I don't care.

If someone wants to help me out and post in the for sale area, I can provide pictures. Or PM me and I'll email them to you.

you might pull 1k out of it

Just got back from a long drive to and back from bethesda md. Averaged almost 18mpg with roof rack and tire up there. I'm actually very impressed.

Changed rear diff oil and greased all the driveshaft points.

i'll probably end up picking up a pair of the 3" widowmakers for my Duster if I ever get to that point :lol:

Thanks! The owner is an acquaintance of mine, and we have a small shop so sometimes I can sell these for him so I figured I might as well have one on my truck too. At least I could show it to people that way.
They sound really mean on v8's for sure!

And my cv boots are blown after a few days of driving on the new front lift, so this weekend I'm hoping to do those and build upper control arms.

Hopefully frame coat this weekend, and tires next week.

Holy smokes, that was a THICK coat of wax! Did you have trouble wiping it off?

My 3rd gen passed its MoT test with no problems! That's the annual inspection over here in the UK.

Not bad at all considering it's 20 years old

Not exactly today, but Saturday I replaced the clutch, rear main, starter contacts, and uhh the transmission.

After 250k the input shaft bearing was on its last leg and the grumbling had gotten noticeably worse in the past few months. Grabbed a lower mileage tranny from the junkyard and swapped it in.

Bonus pic: new clutch vs old. It actually never slipped, but it did make some awful squeals upon engagement sometimes.

The other day I poked a screwdriver through the differential housing! Then I cleaned it all up, JB Welded it, and filled it back up last night. Seems to be holding today!

i had noticed that my intake temps are really high. like would get to the 150 mark. of course where i live it gets to about 115 during the summer. but even as its cooling if its 80 degrees out my temps would get to 140s so i figure its heat soak. so im cracking my hood up to see if it makes a differeance letting the hot air out. i figure its cheap and reversable and if it makes a difference ill invest in actual hood louvers and cut the hood.
