Figured out that after 13 year of ownership of my 99 the gas gauge finally has started to read correctly. Well I guess better late than never. Probably will have jinxed myself now.

And the reason for the flatbed:

Bought off CL for a song with known transmission issues. Strange clattering-ish noise during start/warm up. When it first starts, it will shift into R or D and move 'normally' Let it sit in P or N for 60+ seconds or until it warms up and every selection feels like N, doesn't even attempt to creep. Strange sound disappears after a minute or two until the truck cools all the way down again.

Burnt trans fluid.

Yeah I was able to knock a good amount off the list price. It's in need of quite a bit of general maintenance after the trans woes are sorted. I would have passed but the body and frame are in great condition. Little to no rust besides the rear window frame and rear bumper and some decent surface rot on the rear axle housing and sway bar links. I see it as an excuse to swap in an e-locker axle and a plate bumper at a later date. :guitar3:

My 99 had more rust than I thought it did on the frame so I'd tap it with a hammer just to be sure. Other than that it looks good. If you need some help I'm around. And am well versed in rust and junk repairs.

I would drop the tranny pan and get a new filter put in

I've got a some experience with the typical Toyota rust via my 2003 Tacoma. Lets just say i would love to be able to swap this under carriage to the Taco if it were remotely possible.

FrenchToasty - Thanks for the tip, I was going to start with that and checking the solenoids but that sound at startup and full slip leads me to believe it's the TC. I'll try to get some audio of it uploaded tomorrow.

Finally repaired both my wife's and my own key fobs. The internals were still good, so two new cases and two fresh batteries and we're back in business.

Also repositioned my TREDPRO traction mats from the roof basket to the hatch ladder. Removed my hi lift from the basket too and will remount it on top of my bumper tomorrow after I get the proper stainless hardware.

Finally got my exhaust welded on Monday
2.5" from the manifolds into a high flow Flowmaster cat into a Borla S-Type muffler

Do you think you could post a brief review of those tires or at least some impressions if you have some free time?

I've been eyeing the ATWs as a replacement for my Grabber AT2s. The Grabbers have never quite balanced up and despite having the severe snow service rating I feel like they leave a lot to be desired on packed roads.

I dont know if i would be a good judge of their performance. This is my first ever set of new tires and pretty much all my driving to date has been on practically bald tires.

Mounted my DIN rocker switch panel. Nothing crazy. Need to do a bunch of wiring and weld on a piece to hook safety chains on my rear bumper. Its a part I overlooked building it.

Looking at front bumpers, might just go that route instead of building one due to lack of time. So it raises a few questions. Im looking at the addicted offroad tube bumper and CBI. CBI offeres their plate bumper as a kit for the Taco, but not the 4runner. Leaning towards the CBI (price and I like it more anyway) and calling and asking for 4runner mounting brackets.
AOR is ~$650 shipped
CBI Taco kit (with all hoops) is ~$570 shipped

Also, a buddy of mine is stationed in Okinawa so I have an opportunity to grab some JDM Hilux Surf parts. What should I be looking for? Already have a tire carrier on the list.

Big punch list, since I just bought this off CL and maintenance records were thin:

Injector O-Rings - goodbye fuel leak
Rear End/3rd - pinion bearing was so worn out it was carving out its own little hole
Belts
Brake Bleed
Replacement of broken window washer bits
Wheel balance

Hopefully that'll be it for a while.
