What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I feel like a dumbass for the wreck and I know it's just a vehicle, but it still sucks I took another 3rd gen out of the population.

So you rolled it?....not out of the population at all....put new glass or plexi glass in it and drive it. Who cares if its dented.

Did my spacers and 231's today. Will post pics in my build thread later on. They bled easily, I don't have an ABS issue like most and my brake light isn't on on the dash like some had issue with. I will say, I dont really notice much of an improvement in braking though. I bled all 4 corners starting right rear like youre supposed to and worked to the front left. Got all of the air out. Pedal feels fine. I also havnt tried threshold braking yet either (just before lockup) to see how quickly they stop either.

Next project will be the tire carrier I think, to get the spare off of my roof. I plan on doing a 5 tire rotation and that'll make it alot easier.

10w-30 Mobil one oil change, alignment, and bought all the gear oil, put in gas with additive, as well as a fuel filter.

Spent the weekend under the ol' 97 wire-wheeling some rust off the frame, rear diff, sliders, hitch bar, etc. Rust was all on the surface, with no structural issues, but better safe than sorry.

Cleaned it up with some degreaser after rust removal, then hit it with some rust converter. Paint later this week, then fluid film.

[I feel like I've been rolling around on the asphalt all weekend under my truck with a wire wheel in my hand...exhausted.]

It takes many miles of driving and different types of situations to replicate the abs issue.

I finally finished my axle seals. Well, kinda. It has new seals, but it probably needs new bearings, spacers, ABS rings, and outer dust seals. I have all of the parts except the ABS rings, but didn't feel like making the tool to separate the backing plates just yet. I'll do that a little bit down the road. I just wanted to get the truck buttoned up and inspected so that I can finally drive her.

I'm going to be getting some better calipers and rotors for the front, so when I do them, I'll do the rear wheel bearings, since I'll have to re-bleed the brakes anyway.

Other than that, I bought a painted/primed bumper from eBay and a new front valance to go with it. It was $65 shipped for both, so I figured it was worth it. I'll powder coat the bumper and roll with it for a while to give me time to build the plate bumper. I'll blast and PC the rear bumper as well while I'm at it.

Then it will just need the passenger seat installed, and this thing will be good for a while so that I can get back to building my '50 Ford, '57 Chevy, '51 Ford, and '87 Hilux.

Put on some 265-70R17 Terra Graplers with 4th gen sport wheels. Changed the fuel filter, drained and filled the trans to fix the slow shifting and got an alignment done.

That's exactly what I am doing! Those exact rims, which I love. I have a set with some 265/65/R17's with not much tread left and I put them on. They are super close to rubbing the UCA, like 1/4". Do the 265/70's rub? I will be going with some Spidertrax spacers if they do, which I'd really like to avoid.

You know, I didn't even think to check the UCAs. 265/70 and 265/65 are the same width so the spacing to the UCA should be the same. I do like the look of spacers, even had them on my last 4Runner, but took them off because of the increased rubbing and I was worried about bearing life.

These 4th gen rims are offset inwards a half inch compared with 3rd gen stock rims. So a 1.25" spacer will bring the wheel out 1.25 - 0.5 = 0.75" compared to stock. And I think the rear wheels stick out 0.5" farther than the front so with front spacers the front wheel will stick out 0.25" farther than the rear which is ideal IMO, and it might help a little with avoiding rolling over. But I'm not too keen about putting on spacers.

I'm just concerned that during full flex they might rub.

last weekend i broke the grill on my snorkel, looked online for a replacement, found a solid one from Sierra Expeditions, this one should not break as it's 14 gauge steel and the older one is ABS plastic.

So this is metal & not plastic?!? That's worth it!

Finally got her on the trail for the first time since getting her a few weeks ago. Good shakedown run on some easy stuff. Spent the rest of the day finding things that broke LOL.

Here some steering clank that sounds like its coming from inside the cabin. It was jostling around pretty good one the trail and was making a hell of a racket. It was also nocking the wheel around a bit.

Good to know. I thought they looked a little further in than the split spokes. I haven't had any rubbing with these yet so I'll wait to put them on until I do the Tundra brake upgrade. Then I can replace the stock studs with longer ones at the same time and not have to take it all apart twice.

What're your thoughts on the new setup?

New setup is great. I have no issues with the ride at all. Im running 906s in the rear with no weight and the ride is fine.

Replaced my Ac controller, I thought it was stripped. Turns out the bracket that holds it together was broke.
