What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I set up a 1TB external USB hard drive for my aftermarket radio. I had to format the hard drive at FAT32 because it's a universal format. I used a free 3rd party software called GUIFAT32 because Windows will only convert up to 32gb drives for some reason.
I used a LaCie Porsche drive and placed it under the shifter bezel. Nestles in very snug.

Ran the cable through a small hole in the ashtray mount. I might remove one of the 3 12v outlets and run it through there so the ashtray closes fully.

Now I can have my entire music and movie (the screen blacks out while driving) collection in the car. Makes my 1.5 hour one way commute a lot easier.

That was a pain with the dawn of the touchscreen devices. Mass storage took a hit, with all the music streaming apps. I'd rather listen to MY music, to the exact song I want, than have an app play the same 20 songs that aren't even closely related to what I actually wanted.
I damn near cried when my 120gb Zune died last year. 70gb of music, and 40gb of movies, all portable, down the drain. At least I had the original copies on my computer still.

For my 2WD with a 2" lift that only sees highway driving I think they will be fine - unless there is something you think I should know...

What deck is that? My deck has a 200 folder limit. Seems like you'd have way more folders than the limit on a 1TB HD. I know I do. Have you tried running the parking brake wire off the deck to ground? It's a trick that on some after market decks to bypass the vid when parked rule. If not there's cheap bypasses on amazon. Not that I ever watch vids while driving but it can keep the passengers entertained. Lastly, if you haven't replaced that Zune yet look at Fiio's stuff. Their X3 is by far the best dac in it's price range. It takes micro sd cards up to 256gb so you never run out of YOUR music. For the record, I never listen to streaming either.

I use equivalent non-OEM stuff with zero issues. On something like that it's not worth feeling warm and fuzzy using OEM. Unless you like having less money then necessary.

Pick up some wheels for $80. These things are minty clean. Previous owner took great care of these. I wonder if tundra calipers till fit under these.

Edit: tundra calipers will fit underneath these wheels.

It's an XO Vision XOD1752BT. Definitely cheap. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a meh.
It has good sound, but I'm not an audiophile, and I don't care much for bass. Better than the stock radio, though.
The Bluetooth connects easily, but the microphone sucks (there is a plug for an external microphone). Any music played through Bluetooth has a slight hissing noise in the background. Their website sucks and there are no firmware updates to potentially fix the issue. I use the Bluetooth for my offline Netflix shows. It's fine with just talking.
I'm not sure about the folder limit, honestly. I'm not even close to touching the 1TB.
I got the LaCie used from a client who thought she broke it a few months ago and bought a new one. She had somehow managed to bend metal jack where it plugs in and couldn't for the life of her unbend it. I tried for a few minutes, but with hourly billing, it was cheaper just to buy a new drive and she was just going to throw this one away. When I got home, I had to dismantle the whole thing and take some mini vice-grips to the piece to unbend it. Took well over an hour.

The interface kinda sucks. Not very intuitive, which is pretty necessary for a car radio. You can't be monkeying with it trying to figure out how the hell to work it while driving. Also, the folder system is weird. After confirming that it CAN read the HDD, I copied my entire music library over to it. Only half the music even showed up. When plugged into the computer, they were there, but they would not display on the radio. All my songs are MP3 format, but only half displayed. I had to format it again, then copy over one artist (folder) at a time. Then it displayed fine. I also realized that it displays folders in the order they were copied to the drive, not alphabetical order. And no way to sort folders in the interface. So if I find a new artist I like, unless I want it to be at the very bottom of the list, I have to format the drive, then copy everything back over again with the new artist in place. Stupid cheap thing. You get what to pay for.

I actually DO have the parking brake wire spliced. I meant to say that I CAN turn the screen off while driving; there is a button for it. Last thing I need is for a cop in a taller Tahoe to pull up next to me and be able to see a movie playing.

Thanks for the advice on the FIIO. If i ever get around to it, I'll just get a 128GB microSD card for my Samsung Galaxy.

Thanks. I actually like the little slot there. I can wedge cell phones (work and personal) there while charging them. I actually usually have the ashtray pulled out, because I use my work phone as my GPS and it sits there nicely. The short charging cable keeps it in place on bumps.

I'd like to figure out a USB butt connector that would fit in the middle 12v slot and get a short male to male cable for the radio. Then I could plug the drive into the back of the butt, and the other end into the radio. Nice and clean.
Of course, for the effort and potentially price, I might be able to find a better radio.

I'd like one of those single DIN with the pull-out screen. I used to have a single DIN, and a cubby underneath for the second DIN slot. Now I miss the extra storage.

I'm an excellent salesman. :becky: I know I bought it cheap, so I can't complain too much. There's just no point in a double DIN radio without a touchscreen, in my opinion, and no point in a touchscreen without a DVD player.

Finally got all my Savage Offroad skid plates mounted up

Made a few mods yesterday. ISR and Deckplate mods then removed the trailer hitch. Thing must way close to 100lbs because I got a 1/2" lift in the back just by removing it.

ISR and Deckplate mods were well worth the half hour of wrench time. My 4Runner sounds extra mean (even though I already have a Flowmaster exhaust) and honestly does have some extra giddy-up. And at 4k-5k RPM's it sounds like a beast.

So whether or not both mods produce the 9hp they say, idk, but I'm in love with the sound and it does have a noticeable boost. Mainly with the ETC off.

New o2 sensors!

Spent my morning cussing out the plastic dohickys that toyota loves so much. Now I have new Denso o2 sensors upstream and down, the adventure bucket is purring rather nicely!
If anyone has advice or thoughts on the evap thread I started today, they're appreciated!

I have to ask though just how bright is that Dewalt spotlight while working under cars? My cousin is a facility maintenance guy and has one; that sucker puts out one bright throw.
